    Commercial Hop Harvesting Machinery

Yeah, I know a few of the Gamaches, the Roys, and many of the growers in the area. It's a pretty small community in that regard. The new acreage that was planted was very surprising. We actually didn't increase our acreage at all which in hindsight was a pretty good decision even if at the...

    Commercial Hop Harvesting Machinery

Yep, and I saw in another thread you know the Gamaches, right?

    Commercial Hop Harvesting Machinery

No problem. They were taken on our farm east of Yakima in September.

    Commercial Hop Harvesting Machinery

Dan is right. Dauenhauer machines are not for the small scale farmer. They require a large shed to house the picker, but can pick over 1,500 vines per hour. I mentioned it more as a point of interest. Some of the pictures in this Flickr album show our Dauenhauer machine.

    Hello from Yakima

I didn't realize that's where Silverstar was. I've heard really good things about the skiing there. Good luck on the homebrew supply website. When you get it up and running, post a link, I'd like to see it. Cheers!

Most commercial scale hop harvesters in the Yakima Valley are of the Dauenhauer variety. http://www.dmfg.com/hh/index.html

    Tettnanger vs Tettnang

Yep, Willamette was originally bred from Fuggle as a "triploid" (seedless) version of Fuggle.

    Tettnanger vs Tettnang

For all intents and purposes, yes. There is some debate as to whether Zeus = Columbus/Tomahawk or whether they are very very close sisters, but essentially all three are the same.

    Tettnanger vs Tettnang

And actually US Tettnang, US Fuggle, and US Hallertau are all essentially the same thing and interchangeable. Willamette is very close as well.

    Hello from Yakima

It was horribly hot for a stretch last August and September. So you live up near Revelstoke? I hear the skiing there is fantastic. I hope to get up there at some point to see for my self. 60 plants is more than just a hobby -- especially at harvest.

    Hello from Yakima

Everyone loves Yakima! ;) Where are you heading when you are passing through? Our main varieties are Tomahawk (aka Columbus), Cascade, Simcoe, Palisade, Warrior, and Willamette, with a couple others smaller varieties tossed in. I'm really looking forward to tasting the differences among the...

    Hello from Yakima

Hey! No promises on a party, but... if you are ever in the area and want a tour, look me up. Answer enough of my stupid noob questions and I may let you walk out with a freezer bag. Maybe... ;)

    Hello from Yakima

Thanks! I got a card from one of them at the Fresh Hop Ale Festival back in October and hadn't followed up on it. Maybe I will. Cheers!

    Hello from Yakima

Not too far from where I live now. When I moved back, SWMBO and I bought a house near Franklin Park. And to make a small world smaller, for the last 5 years in Seattle I lived just up the hill from SPU. Weird. And yes, next year should be much better in football. Locker back again, 2nd...

    Hello from Yakima

Thanks! Glad to see another native of the Palm Springs of Washington around. Whereabouts in Yakima are you from? I'm from the East Valley area.

    Hello from Yakima

Good morning HBT! Thanks to everyone for the wealth of information available on the site. I've learned a ton already and haven't even started brewing my first batch yet... Starting up Saturday with a Pale Ale and can't wait! My "day job" is what led me to pursue homebrewing. My family...
