    Noob making some cider.

Ok, I have to ask because this has to be a great story.

    First Cider Question

Sorry about the double post, it said my reply didnt go through the first time. Oddly enough I've never heard anybody else mention this, but it seems to be happening to me each time.

    First Cider Question

You may need to give the sample a good shake to remove carbonation. I found that my samples were pretty bubbly and the bubbles were clinging to the hydrometer, giving me an incorrect reading. Spinning the hydrometer didn't help, so I ended up capping the sample with my hand, shaking the heck out...

    First Cider Question

It may help to give the sample a good hard shake. I found that my samples are pretty carbonated and the bubbles stick to the hydrometer, making it float a little high. On my last sample I had to cap it with my hand, shake it multiple times, and then test to get a more accurate reading. Needles...

    Bottle Dryer - Holds 54 bottles <$10.00

I'll probably use rigid erector set type pieces for stability. I'll do one with larger holes for the 1gallon carboys and add cross pieces to keep them from falling over and tumbling onto the floor. Wow thanks for the great idea!

    Bottle Dryer - Holds 54 bottles <$10.00

Mind blown. I'm going to build one to hang from the ceiling.

    Sparkling Cinnamon Cider

Do you use the entire peel, including the white inner surface? Or did you use one of those fancy orange shavers to get just the orange colored portion? I ask because the white part tends to be a little bitter when you use it I cook with.

    Hard cider apple juice problem

*present in unpasteurized juice BTW I have used Santa Cruz organic, Martinelli's, and the cheap store brands and all are fermenting. We'll see which tastes best soon :)

    Hard cider apple juice problem

Camden tablets are used at least 24 hours before you pitch your yeast. They prevent the natural yeast that is present in unpasteurized from reproducing.

    Redd's Apple Ale

Thanks for the reviews all! I was tempted to buy some of this, but I'll steer clear of it. It sounds exactly like what I didn't want it to be.

I'm new and I need some help

Yes, you can use either, or mix them. It will taste a little different, but as long as it has no preservatives, you'll be fine. You can reduce the recipe, but you'll need a smaller bottle. You want some 'headspace' in the bottle, but too much could possibly allow oxygen into the mix at the...

    Hard cider apple juice problem

Just a noob here, but I have four batches with various brands of store bought juice going. One of them took a full 24 hours to get going, so hang in there. You may want to check and make sure you have a good seal on your stopper. I had one batch that wasn't bubbling through the airlock, turns...

First batch, have a few questions

Thank you krduckman, a lot of people say to prime cider just like you would do for beer, so your answer was exactly what I needed!

First batch, have a few questions

Hi all, sorry about the noob questions, but I'm having a hard time finding answers to these specific questions. First of all, how much sugar should you use to prime one gallon for carbonating? Second question, how cold does it need to be to cold crash? I was hoping to turn the temp up in my...
