wheat flour at flameout? What does that do?

    Improved boiling on the stovetop!

Anyone thought about neoprene? Is heat resistant, not sure how flame resistant.. if you made a sleeve out of it it would be easy to slip off for cleaning. Hmmm.. that old wetsuit is past its prime anyway...

+10000 for keg lube (baby oil) on ball posts

Hey guys, I've read many posts where people say "use a little keg lube". I never bothered (partly because I didn't have any). Well today I got tired of labouring and hammering on those dam ball posts to get the connectors on and off, and I put just the TINIEST bit of baby oil around the edges...

    Difficulty with used regulator setup.

Well I got around to playing with this again. Salzar... I'm not sure I understand your question, but each of the two regulators feeds to a T ... the regulator is off one of the top bits of the T, and thus the gas lines feed the kegs from the other top bit and the bottom stem of the T. I think...

    Balancing an over-hopped haus ale

You know... a few days in the keg, cooling down to serving temp, carbonating up... I think I like this beer as it turned out. Definitely hoppy still, not the super-easy-drinking ale I understand the original to be, but good. I suppose the ABV isn't high enough to call it a true IPA, but...

    Canadian Supplier of Hop Rhizomes?

Hey Guys, (Talk about a slow response time..) I didn't get my order in early enough last year, so this spring I will try again! Fingers.. good to hear yours grew well.. have you tasted any yet? Hughendon is a few hours from me... Anyone ever look into testing the AA% of homegrown hops? My...

    Balancing an over-hopped haus ale

Thanks AiredAle, I hadn't thought of mixing two batches.. that is a great idea. I know the dry hopping wouldn't reduce the bitterness... I guess I just thought it could balance some of the bitter taste with some good hop aroma, and then change expectations from an easy pale ale to a hoppy...

Cream Ale Cream of Three Crops (Cream Ale)

Did this as my second-ever all grain (except had a manifold for lautering instead of a pop bottle, and an immersion chiller instead of a snowbank!) I did a 5 gal batch, with slightly generous portions to make up for assumed beginners inefficiency. Used cereal mashed corn meal, minute rice...

    Balancing an over-hopped haus ale

Hey all, My first all-grain was (more or less) Ed Wort's Hause Pale Ale. I mentioned on another thread that it went pretty well for a first effort... but it was kind of spontaneous, so I had no manifold (ended up drilling holes in a pop bottle and siphoning from the bottom of it ... it...

    Tastes change after illness?

Interesting. Everything's pretty much back to normal now. (And whew, good thing too! What would I do with these built-in taps if I suddenly stopped liking beer?! :o ) What a weird thing though... such a sudden shift in taste perception!

    My first all grain! :)

I was at 1.055 or so, but had boiled off about a gallon too much water, then forgot to recheck the SG... still.. should be pretty close. I'd added an extra half pound or so of grain, figguring I'd be low. It was fun.. and... having done it this way once, next time if I use a manifold and a...

    My first all grain! :)

Well... I got the barley crusher for christmas, so it was only a matter of time. Of course, a person shouldn't be totally prepared or do everything right the first time. My brother was over and we decided to crush some malt, just 'cause we could. Then he asks "Well what do we do next... and...

    Tastes change after illness?

Hey, I'm sure this will pass, but thought it a marginally interesting thing to share... I had strep throat over the holidays, so no turkey, beer, or wine at any of the three xmas dinners we went to :( However... starting to get back on my feet and decided to "force" down a brew.. my inlaws had a...

    Most overrated high priced beers

Just bought a 6 of flying dog porter - it's pretty decent. I've tried their product before, BUT - $16.80 at the till!? I won't do that again.

1 BBL construction in Costa Rica. Help?

Sounds great, good on ya! I've traveled a few times to central and S. america (costa rica, mexico, ecuador, brasil), and have thought to myself "someone should come down here and make some good beer"...

Ever know the answer to a question, but you have to ask it anyway?

Transferred it.. and put some in a glass and drank it too. I'm still typing. The beer itself is actually quite clear. It tastes warm, flat, and bitter - not great - but keep in mind this was a cheap no-boil extract kit that someone picked up at a garage sale (why am I still bothering? ... oh...

Ever know the answer to a question, but you have to ask it anyway?

Thanks guys, was away for a few days again, I got back, moved it to the counter, and it looks like this: Moving it sort of broke up the gunk on the top. You can see the sort of orangey flakey stuff that used to cover the surface, along with some of the foamy white masses. I'm going to put...

Cost comparison-Extract vs. All-grain vs. Macrobrew

Just was talking to the owner of my favorite local micro-brewery (Amber's Brewing, Edmonton) and found out that if you come round on a brew day, they'll give you a 5 gallon pail of fresh wort for 20 bucks... just add yeast. Yes, that takes away the challenge and interest of home brewing that is...
