I don't take gravity readings anymore

Whoa... I took a gravity reading yesterday. I'm really glad five angry monkeys didn't kick my ass. Guess I lucked out on that one. :cross:

I think my yeast is dead...

He's using a blowoff tube instead of an airlock (the other end is in sanitized solution correct?) That's how I do it. The tube is about the size of the carboy opening, so it fits nice and snug, and you don't have to worry about airlocks getting clogged if your krausen gets too high.

    Sample Through... Goo?

Thanks all... I think I will try to steal a sample tonight. :) Just hope I don't get any goo in the sample jar. I've read that Saisons tend to be notoriously slow... So I'm prepaired to wait... Luckily SWMBO was as excited to buy another carboy/ingredients for another batch as I was... Next...

    Sample Through... Goo?

Ok I tried to hold off on asking this. :) I searched around, and read what I could, so I'm definitely not, "worried." I'm just anxious to take a reading, and get a sample since my wine thief finally arrived today... LHBS didn't have them for a while and ordered on line... So I...

    Trading beer

The gift basket is just that- a gift, it's not payment for services rendered. Different tax laws apply.

    I love Philly beer week!!!

Went to the Extreme Homebrew event the other day, and I think I'll be headed to the Victory Tap takeover tomorrow. :)

    Dunkelweisen

My first batch was a dunkelweizen and we bottled after 2 weeks. I made it at a brew on premises place, and they pretty much controlled when you bottled, so take that as it be. Everyone seemed to really love it though. :)

    Mmmmm Krausen!

So... Armed with my advanced knowledge that after fermentation is done, everything clears up and you get beer... To me, fermentation is beautiful! :) But I AM forced to wonder... Who in their right mind saw this liquid with generally bubbling slimy looking stuff on top and figured... I'ma...

    Just Wanted to Say Hi...

I successfully (at least so far) brewed a Saison Wort this weekend! :) As we speak it's sitting in a water bath fermenting away- saw a nice thick layer of Krausen this morning.

So, how does Star San turn into a yeast nutrient?

Huh... That explains a LOT! ;) I keed I keed...

    SWMBO is a Scientist

They actually use HIV for a lot of things... A "neutered" form, but still... since the entire purpose of a virus is to take over the host body's genetic replication, it's great for manipulating things on the genetic level.

recently bottled homebrew on an airplane?

YEah I probably should have mentioned that it's not an absolute. It's just happened often enough to me that I feel it's better to be safe then sorry... My sister in law was sorry when she opened her bag and found the expensive olive oil she bought was no longer in the bottle. :(

recently bottled homebrew on an airplane?

I would suggest getting some of those boxes with Styrofoam inside they make for shipping bottles. I've noticed that when you wrap them up all nicely with bubblewqrap or socks or whatever, TSA when inspecting your luggage doesn't do as good a job as you did leading potentially to disaster. If...

She controls the ordering, so she can bring home lots of nice clean stuff. :)

    SWMBO is a Scientist

Yesterday SWMBO brought me home a stir plate, a thermometer, an Erlenmeyer flask, a graduated cylinder, some PH strips, a really cool 3 clock timer, and enough tubbing to last me until the end of the world REALLY happens... :P She also saw me checking out the posts on how to make a yeast...
