The Dysfunctional-Palooza Obnoxious Masshole BS Thread

Happening everywhere. I live in the capital city and we have no homebrew stores for over a year now. The closest one is 2 hours away.

    "American" Beer, What is it?

Interesting Beersmith podcast on American adjunct lagers YouTube link It is stated that this style originated in Europe and was brought to the US where it was brewed by Germans for Germans in immigrant communities. Not a desirable style for the bulk of people on this forum, but it sure is...

Komos V2 Kegerator, compressor not coming on, it is making the clicking noise but is not coming on

I wasted an hour with a multimeter on mine. In fairness, my symptoms were a bit different. After unplugging mine would start and run for a few seconds, then stop. I wish there were more repair resources these days. I hate that we have become a disposable society.

Komos V2 Kegerator, compressor not coming on, it is making the clicking noise but is not coming on

Sounds like cheap compressor failure to me. I had a Magic Chef deep freeze do the same thing after running in the same place for 3 years. Just out of warranty of course! :)

    Input on grain mill design

Thanks for that. I'm going to be limited in my capabilities a bit anyway. I only have a 3 axis mill and an old CNC lathe. I can't cut gears (in a decent amount of time) or mill flutes in rollers. I'll be limited to diamond knurling I'm afraid. I already received the parts to build the one I...

    Input on grain mill design

I'm looking into 7075. Looks like it isn't as expensive as I was thinking. Might only account for about $35 - $50 of the cost (before anodizing) We use this for fixture plates. Nice and flat. Holds threads and dowel holes well.

    Input on grain mill design

Goodness! Sounds like I need to scrap this drawing and start over! So, no diamond knurling on the rollers? I can see how it could make flour with a single drive roller, but I would think it help pull grain in without damage on a gear-driven mill. Thoughts on that? @MaxStout, I will try to come...

    Input on grain mill design

I'd love gears. Gear stock was a little pricey so I thought I'd start without. Do people want bearings everywhere and forego the bushings? I do have nice big eccentric dials drawn. Rollers go from 0" to 0.1875" in this iteration. Thanks for the ideas! Please keep them coming! If you're all...

    Input on grain mill design

Anything up to light commercial was my thought. As drawn now it has 2" rollers with no gears. I planned on case hardening the rollers. It has a sealed bearing on the inside of the drive side. The rest are foodservice oil impregnated bronze. 3/4" shaft on the drive roller 3/8" on the free...

    Input on grain mill design

I work for a company doing design, prototyping, and small quantity manufacturing. We've been slow recently and the owner has said a few times we need to diversify. I decided to prototype a heavy-duty grain mill as a possible product to sell. (I don't own one so that's a bonus for me) If you...

wine barrel flavor without wine barrel

I'm planning to pasteurize some cider with a sous vide stick and a short bucket so I can back sweeten. Might be an option for wine as well if you happen to have the equipment already.

    Brewing water

If it's legal to own distillation equipment where you are and you have a Grainfather already, you can get a cheap pot still set up for it from Ebay and distill your own brew water. Just a thought...

wine barrel flavor without wine barrel

Don't people bake the wood in the oven to sanitize? Seems like I saw that somewhere, but it's been long ago.

Not completely dissolving the liquid malt extract & sugar

Sounds like a wait-and-see thing to me. This would be a good time to invest in a hydrometer setup if you don't have one already. Then you can keep tabs on it at least.

Keeps Fermenting - Have I got a problem?

What little I know about mead is telling me to just let it sit a while longer. Seems like mead technique has to apply here at least a little bit.
