    Wine and Sterilization

I used One-Step when I made my Winexpert Merlot kit a couple of months ago. If I remember correctly, Walker used Idophor when he made his. I wondered the same thing as you, because the instructions so say to use metabisulphite, and these are high dollar kits. After some research, you don't...

    Mashtun Manifold: Copper or PVC?

Thanks... So, you went to Home Depot? I guess I'll try another one or a hardware store tomorrow. The longest I found was three feet long and it wasn't real stainless. Different lengths were hanging on a rack. Yours is definitely stainless and not polyester? ;)

    Mashtun Manifold: Copper or PVC?

Okay, just got back from Home Depot with copper pipe, tees, elbows, a new hole saw kit, (bought a Mapp torch the other day) etc.... the problem is I couldn't find any stainless steel braided line! I looked by the plumbing supplies. Is it somewhere else? All I could find was various lengths of...

is this a good deal? (40 qt. ss for 80 bucks)

Good catch on the difference in shipping weight. The one I linked to, is for some reason listed in the aluminum section (where the other one is not). The description clearly states stainless steel, though. Home » Kitchen Supplies » Cookware » Stock Pots » Aluminum » 40 Quart » SST-40...

is this a good deal? (40 qt. ss for 80 bucks)

There is a link to this one at the bottom of the page: http://www.instawares.com/detail.asp?product_id=SST-40&sessionID=13219591137A18402B600120 Four dollars more, but it has the specs listed: Our Master Cook stainless steel cookware is made of premium 18/8 stainless steel with...

Let's Talk About Brew Sculptures Again!

Brewhead: Thanks for the info. I wasn't criticizing the height of the thing, just critiquing. Yes, it's always easier to remove material than to add it later. The extra heavy duty stock should serve you well. I still have no idea how my three tier design will look or what it will be made out...

    Oops, I need a fix

What Palmer has to say: http://www.howtobrew.com/section1/chapter2-2-2.html Cleaning Copper For routine cleaning of copper and other metals, percarbonate-based cleaners like PBW are the best choice. For heavily oxidized conditions, acetic acid is very effective, especially when hot. Acetic...

Let's Talk About Brew Sculptures Again!

Brewhead: Darned if that isn't one neat design. Maybe a little tall, but really neat. Nice brew shed too. You say you had this made up. So you just gave a shop the plans and they went at it? If you don't mind, how much did it run? Not counting the kettles.

How much priming sugar per bottle?

Also from one of my books: "To prepare a sugar syrup, measure 1 1/2 level cups of corn sugar and exactly one cup of water. Mix in a small saucepan. Stir thoroughly and bring to a simmer. Do not let the mixture boil for more than one minute or too much water will be evaporated away, as this...

How much priming sugar per bottle?

Yes, it is one teaspoon per bottle. Just measure it carefully. Plamer advocates bulk priming, but doing just 12 bottles or so, IMO, it would be more trouble than it's worth. It seems like it would easier to just use a dry funnel and put one teaspoon in each bottle.

How much priming sugar per bottle?

He only wants to do a dozen or so bottles. I see you are still trying to get people to blow stuf up... *wink* one teaspon. http://www.howtobrew.com/section1/chapter11-4.html

    Will this work?

Sorry guys... What can I say? LOL -------------- cbsdizzo, You can also make beer from grocery store ingrediants. Have a look in the recipe section for Prohibition Beer. Won't taste real great, but it works... You CAN use a glass jug to make wine in, just use the balloon cap or get a...

    Will this work?

He was pulling your leg. Please don't take anything he said seriously. Follow his instructions and you will have your glass bottle blowing up in your buddies ceiling! He should have been winking at you instead of giving you the big grin icon. If you want to make this stuff, follow the...

    Carboy Caps

It sounds like you are trying to make the stem of the airlock go outside of the nipple of cap. It goes on the inside of the middle nipple. How can they buckle if you are stretching the plastic to squeeze the airlock in?

    Dude, your beers

Thanks, Dude. I think I will bump the DME up to six pounds and see what happens. One of these days I will get my AG setup completed. You AG guys are just having way too much fun... :cross:

    welding a keg, advice

I saw in your blog that you have a chiller? You could build a pre-chiller for your immersion chiller. Another immersion chiller in a pail of ice water leading to your existing one would help in the heat of the summer. Or you could make a counterflow chiller. Here is an example of how to make...

    Dude, your beers

Dude: Congrats on moving to the second round! Best wishes for making it all the way to the top. I looked last night for your recipe. Not sure the one I found is the final version. Do you have an extract/partial mash version you want to share? No fair leaving out ingrediants like granny...

Check this out: http://www.howtobrew.com/section1/chapter11-4.html I guess if you use table sugar, you might want to cut it back to 2/3 of a cup.

    Great American Boycott?

Wow, a semi-political thread without a bunch of emotional craziness. Unlike the smoking debate thread, this one is a pleasure to read. To answer the original query, I didn't notice a thing with the possible exception of less traffic on the roads. I went to Home Depot and things looked normal...
