I guess you missed where the "Marine" was telling people do do this.... ;)

    Hops in fermenter???

Sorry to hear about the less than perfect batch. As was pointed out by someone in GOODBREW's Mr. Beer thread, you don't want to go by the Mr. Beer timeline. Only a week in the fermenter and then a week in the bottles, is really pushing it. I would leave it in there for two weeks before bottling...

    Inversion IPA

Cascade hops will give you the grapefruity-citrus taste. There are others as well. Cascades are very much in vogue in the Pacific Northwest. Check this out: http://www.northernbrewer.com/hops.html :)

    Newbie having fun and success.

Putting the lid on will tend to do it! Glad you got it all cleaned up and are having fun. :mug: Keep a long handled spoon handy for when things start to get out of hand. Stirring and turning down (or removing from) the heat will help. You can also keep a spray bottle full of water handy...

    Hops in fermenter???

If the instructions say to strain them, strain them. Otherwise let em ride. I think most people here like to strain them out while pouring into the fermenter. Then there are a few who just pour the whole shebang in. I have never used a Mr. Beer, so I can't say with any certainty what they...

    Which kit?

A kit for every budget: http://www.northernbrewer.com/starterkits.html The Deluxe Starter Kit looks nice. There are other equally good websites that offer starter kits Don't forget to factor in some kind of brewing pot and a way to heat it. If you have decent stove top burners, you...

    Mr Beer Home Brewery

Thanks for kind words. I'm pretty sure fa1321tx was only seconding the idea of this being an addictive hobby, and that sometime down the road you will be shelling out dollars for more equipment. Even so, this hobby isn't as expensive as collecting 60s era muscle cars, for example. And there...

    BOTTLING HEFEWEIZEN - Urgent question

Don't re-suspend anything. There will be enough yeast in the cleared brew to ferment the priming sugar. If you like a yeasty taste, you can pour the yeast sediment from the bottom of the bottle into your glass. I haven't drank enough hefes to remember what the normal carbonation level is. No...

    HAHAHA... oops....

I say toss a pound or two of DME in a pot with some water and bring it to a boil. Cool it and put it into the primary. I got pissed at one of my batches (due to low abv.) after it had fermented, and dumped a pound or so of corn sugar right into the primary one time. No sanitizing it, no...

    Infected?

Tiny bubbles clumped together are often mistaken for trouble. Especially in dark brews. If they look like bubbles, that's most likely what they are. Gently tilt your carboy back and forth and I bet they disperse.

    Steam Heating Methodology

Here is another steam system in Sir Sudster's gallery: https://cdn.homebrewtalk.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=6&c=1&userid=1413 Just as an example. Not saying anyone's system better than another... :)

    Mashtun Manifold: Copper or PVC?

Okay, guys... I found out that places like Home Depot have braided lines scattered all over the store. They have them by the hot water heaters, by the washing machines, and over near the lawn irrigation department. I had no idea that all the braided lines wouldn't be in one place! Dumb...

Can anyone translate this for me?

"Thank you for the clarification. This recipe shouldn't be too hard for beginners should it?" Nah, you should be fine with it. This will get you off to a great start: www.howtobrew.com Not that people here mind answering questions. It's just a valuable resource... :)

Can anyone translate this for me?

1-2-3 method = 1) one week in the primary (plastic pail or 6.5 gallon carboy) 2) two weeks in the secondary (usually a five gallon carboy) 3) three in the bottles (48+ 12 ounce bottles) As far as homebrew websites, I found this in the General Beer Discussion area: Sticky: Homebrew...

    Hop Stopper

"My question is if you get even more crud coming out of solution won't that clog the screen even faster?" The crud won't coagulate until it is chilled. It doesn't get chilled 'til after it passes the screen. I hadn't heard about the great cold break using a counterflow chiller. Maybe I'll...

    Mr Beer Home Brewery

People have fun with Mr. Beer. That's what counts at first. Getting interested in the process and actually making BEER! I would imagine that you will find yourself gazing at the thing, much like people watching fish in an aquarium. If it had a regular air lock, where you could see the bubbles of...

    Wine and Sterilization

What kind of powder sanitizer? For some good reading, find Walker's "I think I want to give wine a try" thread in the winemaking section. It should be in the General winemaking area.

    Hop Stopper

Well, crapola. A Hop Stopper was getting closer to the top of my shopping list. My mash/lauter tun will be finished tomorrow, and I am going to work on my keggle next. There's no way I want to dick around with a counterflow or plate chiller.... :( Isn't getting all the break material...
