    ACChhkk. . f'd up homebrew

Hey, doesn't sound like that bad of a run using brand new equipment! Especially, considering yours is way more complicated than most. Don't get discouraged. Just learn form the mistakes, not that they were THAT bad, and continue on. I'll bet that these batches will turn out pretty darned...

    False Bottom for Keg MLT

You might want to read through this thread. A lot of guys are using braided stainless steel line rather than a false bottom. Check out Monster Mash's pic: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=8221&page=3 You could probably rig up a length of SS line circling around the bottom to...

    SNPA Clone Picture

Looks like you just provided me with my first AG recipe! Now, if I would only get my AG gear finished. It might still be a while.. lol

    SNPA Clone Picture

Sounds like a winner! :mug: My SNPA clone was pretty good, too. It was from Clone Brews. Different recipe. Next time I'm going to go with the hops on the SN website. They use Magnum, Perle & Cascade: http://www.sierranevada.com/beers/paleale.html Might be worth a try if...

reminder to be careful when handling carboys

The plastic bottles being referred to are PET bottles. Like soda bottles and so forth. Supposedly they don't let O2 permeate through. They probably work fine. If it was me, though, and I was going to have a mead working away for a year or so, I would go with glass. Then assuming you followed all...

    Fat Tire in WI/IL

I had to drink Fat Tire last night because only one of my homebrews was chilled. After drinking the one homebrew first, the Fat Tire left me less than satisfied. It's just not THAT great of a beer. Not if you like a hop bite. Now, judging by all the New Belgium bottles I use for bottling, I...

    Took off airlock to check.

Glad to hear that your equipment arrived and that you are in the ball game. The **** around the top is normal and is proof that you made beer.. I would do two weeks in the secondary. Your patience will be rewarded. Now, order another beer kit. By the time it arrives, your brew in...

    Propane Burners

I would buy a couple of the ten dollar ones just for the propane tanks. Try buying full tank without an exchange, and you'll find out why. Some places around here, want close to fifty dollars if you don't have a tank for exchange.

    Propane Burners

Yes, it controls the air getting in. Halfway (more or less) sounds about right. At night (where I can see the flame), I just open or close the shutter 'til a I get a nice blue flame. Blue with little or no yellow, is a sign of a clean, hot and efficient flame. During the day I mostly go by the...

    Propane Burners

I bought the SS version. I looks nice. Haven't looked at mine up close lately, but I remember seeing some bluing from the heat on some of the internal ribs. No biggie, though. For the extra bucks it's may well be worth it, if you don't want to have to worry about the paint burning off of the...

    Sankey parts

Northern Brewer has the orangish silicone bulkhead O-ring for like two bucks. I think you get two of them for two bucks. Don't know what you mean by retaining rings. Now if you are talking about parts that fit INSIDE a Sanke installed ball valve, I have no idea. Are there even any...

    Cheyco's CFC

Very nice, CC! If I ever build one of these contraptions, it will be just like yours. I assume that there is enough clearance for water to flow between the outside of the copper tubing and the hose nipples?

    Bottle filler

I don't really like by bottle filler. It doesn't have a spring and it always drips drips drips. It came with a kit too. I turn the flow off comepletely bewteen bottles. Since I'm already jacking with the flow, it's not much more trouble just to slow it down as the bottle fills. This helps with...

reminder to be careful when handling carboys

While I'm sorry to hear what happened, I'm glad you went ahead and posted about it. Broken glass carboys have inflicted many serious injuries. People darn sure need to be careful...

    Bottle filler

Like has been said, I also slow the flow down when nearing the top of the bottle. Then I fill right to the brim. If it overflows a little while filling, I wipe the top off with a paper towel soaked in vodka. That's probably an unneeded step, but what the hey.... BTW: Belated Happy...

    One-Step Sanitizer

Just take a damp dish towel and wipe the white film off. The film is normal. One Step is all I have ever used. It shouldn't affect the taste of the beer. One tablespoon per gallon is the recommendation. Read about the sanitzier vs. cleanser (and flavor) issue here...

    My beer is green!!!

That makes sense assuming 1 milligram equals 1 milliliter. Not sure if that matches, but I see where you are coming from... Back to mowing the yard... :)

    My beer is green!!!

Doesn't 1mg translate to 1/1000 of a gram? That seems different from one part(s) per million. Just wondering if I remember correctly...

    Adjustable Jet Burner

Brewpastor is using sign posts (like for stop signs and such) picked up at a city salvage yard or auction. I asked him a similar question a few months ago. Like you, I like the idea of being able to just bolt everything together. Adjustments would be much easier as well. Janx has an all wood...
