    ring burner red flame?

I have a Bayou Classic (I bet like yours) and all you have to do is adjust the air inlet 'til you get a nice blue flame. If yours is missing the adjustable air inlet (the silver looking piece that rotates), then that is also a problem.

    1970s "Dark" Beer?

Yep, it's a pretty good flick. I'll watch it whenever I'm channel surfing and run across it....

    1970s "Dark" Beer?

No kidding? Who would have thunk it. BMC trying to make us think we were drinking something special. It's been thirty years, but I seem to remember it tasting some different from regular draught. Wish I had a glass of it right now...

    1970s "Dark" Beer?

Just a beer darker in color. Not quite as dark as a stout. More dark brown than black IIRC.

    1970s "Dark" Beer?

Anyone ever go into a bar back in the 70s and drink "dark" beer? I'm wondering what kind of beer it is/was? The choice was between regular and dark. Dark lager of some sort? When out partying with the hoodlums back then, we would order dark. Of course, back then, anything that was...

Dominion Cup Best in Show Goes to......

Dude, Congrats! :mug: My money says you will enter another competition one of these days... ;) BTW: how did the LWPA do after it advanced in the other competition? I missed reading about that....

Do you always boil water before adding it to the must?

I won't drink tap water, so I'm not going to use it in my beer either. Spring water at Wally World is only like 68 cents a gallon. Granted, I use tap water to fill ice cube trays, but I may stop doing that too. On a side note, I can water (soak) my vegetable gardens with a hose using tap...

    How stupid does this sound?

I saw in your basement thread, where you have an extension on top of this desk to make it tall enough for a bar. What if you were to make an extension that would fit under the desk? That way you use regular dorm or mini fridge.

    Outdoor Turkey Fryer /Burners

Looks like a nice setup... Only 59.81 here in Texas. Stainless stockpot and everything. I'm going to make a wort chiller, too, one of these days. As I'm sure you know, you have to be careful when making bends in the copper tubing so it won't kink...

    Presenting.... Basement picts!!!

Very nice, Andre! From looking at the pic of the desk in the other thread, I couldn't see how it would make a very good bar. It looks much better here. I mean, that is the same red desk, isn't it? Enjoy... :mug:

    Outdoor Turkey Fryer /Burners

I like this one better than those two: It's a Bayou Classic and will accomodate a converted keg to boil in, should you decide to go that route later. You gotta love the nice wide cooking top. I have read here that Home Depot sells them for 50 dollars. You would still need a boil...

    I'm not dead... yet...

I'm looking forward to hearing how your wine bottling session goes. What kind of corks you uesd, etc. My wine is still sitting in the tertiary. Haven't bought a corker yet, or decided if I want to rent the floor model from the LHBS. I think I want to buy one, if yours does the job without too...

    something for swmbo

Regular sized primary with a smaller (3 gal) secondary sounds in order. All the CO2 being pushed off during fermentation in the primary will clear out the oxygen...

Is this a good deal, seems like I could do better

"What do you all think?" Maybe... it's just that the tower won't work a kitchen sized fridge, if that is what you have a line on. You need a shorter one like the Sanyo mentioned.

    Swmbo?

    Yeah, baby....

    Info on Sanke Keg HLT

I e-mailed the Weld-B-Gone people about hole placement a month or so ago. Unfortunately, I never heard back from them. To be fair, I think there is a problem with their e-mail form on the Zymico website. What I did, was to take the big brass nut that fits on the bulkhead fitting outside of...

grain bag or lack of it HELP!!!!

No need to sanitize. The temps form steeping and the subsequent boil will kill any nasties. It might not be a bad idea to rinse whatever you use in some hot water just for the heck of it. Just to sort of remove the "new smell" and any loose particles. Probably not needed, though..

grain bag or lack of it HELP!!!!

Liberate some Knee-Highs or panty hose from your wife or girlfriend. Or go to Wally World and buy some. They are made out of nylon and will work. If you use panty hose, just cut off one of the legs... Paint strainer bags will work as well....

DME vs. LME - can you taste the different?

On another note, I've read here that you can't make a really light colored brew with LME. And as the LME ages on the shelf, it will continue to get darker.

    No-boil ingredient kits

The Coopers Draught kit is pretty good. It is more hoppy than you would think, but not like an IPA. Just use a kilo or so of extra light DME with it. I did a partial boil for fifteen minutes. Forgot who it is now, but one of the gang here, says that is what he makes more than anything. He...
