Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

I've read that If you fill the keg up to just under the Q in quart you'll have about 2.4 gallons. I myself have never filled it that full. But I had a coconut porter overflow a bit on me with fermcap when I filled over the recommended lines. A little bit of overflow on the side of my keg is no...

    All this work...for nothin'

Ouch. My condolences. I almost did this exact same thing two days ago. Had to pour sanitizer in my bucket to verify the spigot was closed... It was not. I might need to cut back on the home brew while bottling.

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

I keep a spray bottle full of sanitizer that I use to spray up in the spigot after my initial hydrometer read. Spraying the spigot may not do anything more than put my mind at ease. Removing and cleaning the spigot after fermenting is a must. The threads and washer get pretty nasty.

    bottle infection need help

Did you use a cleaner before sanitizing? I soak bottles in oxiclean free (rinse well) before starsan. I would also check the hydrometer for a stable reading for a solid three days.

    bottle infection need help

How did you calculate your priming sugar? By weight or volume? I also take apart my spigots and sanitize before attaching to the bucket.

Hot alcohol taste got stronger with time

Could be fusel alcohol what temp did you ferment at? Watch out for high fermentation temps early on that could cause the hot taste. Also look out for bad hangovers with fuels. I started controlling fermentation temps by placing my fermentor in a ice chest with frozen water bottles. Search for...

Pretty good luck with Mr Beer

All right! My Mr. Beer oatmeal stout is about 3 weeks old in bottles and tastes great. I'm brewing the Mr. Beer Russian imperial stout recipe tomorrow. One of the base ingredients is the Irish stout HME. I for one fully agree that Mr. Beer is a legit launching point in this obsession. You made...

    Home Brewing = Saving Money?

What other hobbies produce a product that you would normally buy? I'm gradually shifting a big chunk of my craft beer money to brewing. I just totaled all my expenses as I am just a n00b and there is no way I'm going to let my SWMBO see the spreadsheet... yikes I'll need to get about 23...

    New Brewer

Hello all. I've been lurking for the past month just absorbing all I can. My SWMBO bought me a Mr. Beer kit for Christmas and I've been off and running with upgrades. :drunk: I am amazed at the wealth of knowledge from all the users on this site. I started out thinking extract brewing was...

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

I just ran into the same problem with a fruit addition, without an available empty keg. I added raspberry puree into the primary after a week of fermentation. The floating puree doesn't look pretty, but I'm sure it will still make a good beer. I'll need to plan out any fruit beers beforehand to...
