Witbier Blue Balls Belgian Wit (Blue Moon Clone)

Just did a hydro reading on this brew this morning and it is already down to 1.010. My OG was 1.040 which should give me an ABV of approx 3.94%. It tasted pretty good, but the hops were prominent, though this should mellow with time. There was a taste of wheat on the back of the tongue that...

    bottling questions!

I noticed these bubbles in my first bottled batch of Witbier. My understanding is that when we bottle carb the bottling sugar we add feeds what few yeast are left in suspension and this releases CO2. The CO2 then rises into the head space in the neck of the bottle. When there is no more room in...

Witbier Blue Balls Belgian Wit (Blue Moon Clone)

Started this baby yesterday. I made two minor (I hope!) changes. First, I used 1/3oz of Magnum hops at 15.2% simply because that is what I had on hand. Second, I let the coriander seed and orange peel boil for 10 minutes rather than the 5 mins the recipe called for. It smelled heavenly and I had...

Witbier Blue Balls Belgian Wit (Blue Moon Clone)

Going to be starting this one today. Any thoughts on using 1/3 as much Magnum hops at 15ish% instead of Goldings East Kent?

    dry hopped stout?

What is your experience and why do you believe it is okay to berate someone who is simply asking a question? This forum has always been very friendly and helpful to those of us who are lacking in experience. I have read many books about brewing and have made some decent brews over the years...

AG BIAB modificantion to existing recipe.

Okay. I understand the dunk sparge, but in the original recipe the instructions are to add 3 gal of H2O at 197F and let rest for 10min then boil wort. Why is this step necessary in the context of the original recipe?

AG BIAB modificantion to existing recipe.

I am not sparging with the 3 gal, just adding it to the tun and then letting it rest there for 10 min. after the initial 60 min rest. Rather than sparging, I'm going to remove the bag from the tun and just let it sit in a bucket and drain and then add that liquid back to the wort after a few...

AG BIAB modificantion to existing recipe.

Hey all! Please check out my brewing schedule to make sure I have the proper steps to properly execute this brew. I know some of the detail seems infantile, but I have found I need this sort of structure in order to properly execute a recipe. Any constructive criticism/input is welcome...

Autumn Seasonal Beer Samhain Pumpkin Ale

I figure it will come out bad as you say, but I think I'll let it go and see what happens. If it turns out to be bad, so be it; I'll dump it down the drain. What I plan to do next time is, while reviewing the recipe, write out the steps for myself and number them. Then, as I'm brewing, I'll...

Yes. I put the hops in with the grains.

Autumn Seasonal Beer Samhain Pumpkin Ale

I mashed at 158 degrees for 60 minutes, but I did not boil after removing the grains. I have a very healthy fermentation going right now and I'm wondering if I should just let it do its thing or if I should remover it from the primary, boil as instructed, and then repitch? I brewed this on...

Autumn Seasonal Beer Samhain Pumpkin Ale

What is the potential side-effect of not boiling for the additional 60 minutes? I somehow missed the boil after the mash! *ashamed*

Just started KingBrianI Samhain Pumpkin Ale.

SWMBO requested I brew her a pumpkin ale, so, being a bit new to this hobby, I consulted the recipe section of this splendid site and found KingBrianI's recipe https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f76/samhain-pumpkin-ale-140674/. I somehow forgot the rice hulls, but that was the only major problem and...
