How many hydometers have you broken?

Well, I've never broken one, and I used one for 10+ years when keeping a marine aquarium. As some wise poster once said, the key is to treat it as if it were made of glass. :D On the other hand, I'm finding the hydrometer far less useful for brewing than it was in maintaining an aquarium...

Now if there were only some way to get into the beer bottles without breaking a tooth or chipping the furniture. Nah, that's crazy talk...

    how caloric are our beers???

Ob-geek: We should avoid the whole mess and speak only in terms of Joules. In the US, kilocalories are usually capitalized as "Calories", to avoid confusion with "calories". Of course, no one knows that. ;) Hence the on-going myth that you can lose weight by drinking _really cold_ vodka...

    Christmas time is near...

I'm in the same boat. I started homebrewing a couple of months ago and went straight to kegs. I'm making a Kolsch at the moment and plan to lager it in a corney keg at low temps until late summer. I'm also interested in the Anchor recipe. I've always enjoyed both the Anchor Christmas Ale...

My beer is now bubbling..One more question.

I co-opted my 4yo daughter's Radio Flyer All-Terrain Wagon for moving the carboy from my garage (where I brew) to the basement (where it ferments). I ended up buying her a bike so she wouldn't miss the wagon. http://www.radioflyer.com/atw/atw_29.html

    my first label

Nice name and label! Personally, I'd ditch the government warning (or make it a parody) and add some info about what's in the bottle. I always enjoy reading details of the beer I'm about to pour.

Looking for a Hot Weather Beer

Why too late? Is Kolsch a seasonal beer, or is it something else (e.g. fermentation temps)? I'm new to homebrewing and I'm planning to brew a Kolsch this weekend. My first two batches came out fine (pale ale and IPA), but I'm doing this as a hobby with my father, and he likes lighter, less...

New home brewer in Cary, NC

Hi everyone, I've just started homebrewing and I'm really enjoying the hobby so far! I look forward to talking with people here. I started homebrewing mainly as a hobby to do with my dad, and I hope to start a new batch every 2-3 weeks. We've brewed two batches so far, a Pale Ale and an...
