    Hi Gravity beer experiment

Hey Frazier I used Danstar windsor yeast and I did take out the raisins and oatmeal along with the spent crystal60. I sipped the wort it ... was good. I have heard of people adding carbonated soda water later (after bottle conditioning is finished) to these hi gravity beers to cut em down...

    Hop boil times question

The name of my brewing supply here in Walla Walla is "Grapeland". They sell lots of brewing equipment to the many PNW wineries as well, but they have a pretty good Beer store attached as well. We have also a supermarket in Walla Walla that has a whole isle devoted to brewing, fermenting...

    Hop boil times question

Thanks all... am using pellets... The last brew I did with Yoopers instructions (which had only 2 hop introductions) I left em in during the boil but took them out when finished (I had them wrapped in little cheesecloth bag). So when using pellets I can pretty much just toss em in and leave...

    Hop boil times question

I am ready to do a blond ale that calls for hops to be added 4 times during the hour long boil... At 60...35...20... and 5 minutes. My question is: Do I leave the hops in the pot? ... all 4 one after the other? Do I remove them after the boil? Or remove previos hops as new are added?? I...

2 gusher infections in a row (I think). Bummed.

If you hold the bottle very still over the sink... and open it (snap) very quickly and fully.... I have a batch that gushes and this actually worked for me on the last few. If you open it too slow it strains to release pressure & gushes. Anyone else try this?

All my beers are too thick & rich

Haha the thread title may be a bit misleading... I did not mention it was thick, rich, and tasted like crap. Well last night my kids felt a little "Chilly" so they turned the baseboard heater on downstairs and forgot to turn it off... Making the room and my wort 74 degrees. probably for...

All my beers are too thick & rich

I put the yeast in 4 oz lukewarm water like it said on packet????? 15 minutes before intro to wort????? It was magical! (really started off foaming) Temp in bucket is 66 degrees. its pretty cool in my basement now that summer is over. Is getting the yeast hydrated a waste of time? I...

All my beers are too thick & rich

OK I did the Newcastle recipe that Yooper suggested to me... all went without a hitch the instructions were perfect. It's all in the fermenter... I warmed up the yeast. I cooled the wort in a cold water sink with ice... I followed the instructions to a tee. About 3 hours worth of work if you...

2 gusher infections in a row (I think). Bummed.

I tend to agree with this 100% I'm a newbie and this is exactly what happened when I opened mine a bit too early.... beer everywhere!! I thought it was overcarbed because it had not finished fermenting.... Turns out the carbonation had not pushed its way back down into the beer. New guy...

    Spare parts beer! EXTRAS

OK I bottled it today and it tastes like old chub scotch ale... not bad at all. I will keep this recipe and maybe add a few more hops next run.... But I will do this again. At first I thought it was too thick but I'm liking it more & more.

All my beers are too thick & rich

I never said I wanted an IPA, never attempted to get close to an IPA... I hate IPA's. I think they taste pretty nasty. I Prefer a mellower beer, but yes, I needed more hops. Im drinking it now... it carbed pretty fast and its a boozer for sure. I know its a cheep**** recipe but I...
