My Corny Keg Priming Sugar Ratio is Off, Now What?

Okay, I think to answer my questions I should give a quick background.. I just finished fermenting a 5gal batch of porter. My plan was to bottle half and keg the other half. I was going to siphon half into the bucket with the priming sugar (half the normal 1 1/4 cup, or 5/8 cup extra light...

How to sanitize kegging beer line without pressurizing

I use a kegging system. I usually pressurize the keg with the iodophor solution and send it through the tap to clean the tubing. But right now I'm having an issue with my Co2 system, and can't pressurize. I've got a plastic picnic type dispenser on this particular tube, and a standard...

    Keg half now, bottle later?

I usually keg my beers and force carbonation. With my new batch of porter, I was wanting to keg half, and bottle the other. I wasn't able to get bottles yet, so I was planning on putting half into the keg now, and bottling the rest one week from today. So here are my overly-cautious newbie...

    First Batch Tasting

Yes, but in the mainstream commercial beer world, they're similar. Usually beers are self-proclaiming leaning one way or the other, amber or pale. But SA and the Redhook are similar in that they're down the middle which is a little unique on Safeway shelves.

    First Batch Tasting

If I was stranded on a deserted island and had to live with one beer, it would probably have to be Redhook's ESB. But I don't think it's a proper example of a traditional ESB. It's not very bitter. In fact the bottle used to say Extra Special Beer under ESB. I just took a look at a bottle...

    First Batch Tasting

LOL! I guess you don't hate cascades! from Sierranevada.com : "Our most popular beer, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, is a delightful interpretation of a classic style. It has a deep amber color and an exceptionally full-bodied, complex character. Generous quantities of premium Cascade hops give...

Can't get down to 70 degrees!

Should I be worried about anything (metal-wise) with this beer? (It is awfully black. I know it's supposed to be dark, but black? It's an amber by the way, probably normal) Or should I not worry because nothing deadly can live in beer.. It's really rockin n rollin now.

Can't get down to 70 degrees!

Thanks again for the help. I've got one last question: Is there any reason I can't strain the beer as I rack to the secondary? The kettle I used to boil the wort is a black enameled pot. I noticed when I was rinsing it out there were flecks of the enamel coming off. And now I'm afraid...

Can't get down to 70 degrees!

Yeah, I forgot.. "Relax. Don't worry" That's what I should have done, because it seems to be fine. I watched the end of the blow off tube underwater and it is sending up bubbles every 8 seconds or so. I guess I just expected more "action" and foam. Is it important for the water in the...

Can't get down to 70 degrees!

Thanks for the replies. After I posted the question, I figured it didn't make any sense to leave it uncovered, and covered it up. I just didn't want to do it off the bat because the book doesn't say to cover it until you take your temp and specific gravity readings, and pitch the yeast. It...

Can't get down to 70 degrees!

I'm waiting to get down to 70 degrees so I can pitch the yeast, but my wort has been at 81 for the last 5 hours. My house is 68 right now. One thing I'm unclear on is whether to cap the carboy or not. It seems like if I do than it will take longer to reach temp. But if I do, I can put...

Any stores in the Seattle/Tacoma area selling Pub Glassware?

Hello all, this is my first post here. I know there are a lot of places online selling pub glasses, but I'm wondering if anybody knows any stores in the Seattle/Tacoma area that sell pub glassware? I used to live in the CA Bay Area and they had Beverages and More down there. I didn't...
