    Worried

I tried Coopers Carbonation Tabs for the first time with a batch of pumpkin ale I just bottled. As per the instructions I used two tabs per 12 oz long neck. After two weeks I have a pop when the lid is cracked but absolutely no other signs of carbonation. As I have done some investigating online...

    Northern Brewer Smashing Pumpkin

Well this batch turned out great. I added a bit more spices at bottling. Now I just need a way to get the smell out of my primary. Apparently soaking in PBW won't do the trick.

    Northern Brewer Smashing Pumpkin

I'm bottling my first batch of Smashing Pumpkin tomorrow. So far I have stuck to the original recipe. I am going to bottle half as is and add more spice to the other half before bottling. I'm thinking 1 1/2 tbs for 2.5 gallons. However, I would love to hear any opinions because this is my first...

    Tell me about pumkin ale

Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin Ale is a delicious choice. It has a more pronounced spice flavor, which I love. I had my first Shock Top Pumpkin Wheat the other day. Pretty tasty

    Smashing Pumpkin Ale

Sounds like a plan. I also happen to be using Cooper's Carbonation Drops for the first time, so splitting the batch should be a breeze. I'm looking at doing a winter lager as soon as I build my fermentation chamber so I'll most likely go with splitting that batch as well. At least then I don't...

    Smashing Pumpkin Ale

Well, tomorrow is bottling day. I still haven't decided if I want to add more spices before bottling. I've never done this beer before and I'm wondering if the risk is worth the possible reward. I like spiced pumpkin ales with very pronounced flavors and I've heard this beer only has a slight...

    Dry Spicing

Although he says the other spices look fine. I guess we'll see.

    Dry Spicing

And he just called to let me know he went ahead and the ground cinnamon turned into a paste. Smh. So that's why you don't use pre ground spices. Cinnamon at least... Impatience is the death of some really good ideas.

    Dry Spicing

So my buddy is shopping for brew day today. He says that ground spices would be better for the tincture bc of the the increased surface area. Every pic or article related to tinctures I've seen have used whole spices crushed or cut up. I just can't believe I wouldn't have seen some one mention...

    Dry Spicing

Yeah, killing the yeast is what I was worried about. I had a similar experience with my first go at a high gravity batch. In fact, I'm still waiting to see how that turns out. I'm stoked about trying this technique. I brew this Saturday so I'll start the tincture Sunday. I've read different...

    Dry Spicing

How much spice vs vodka do you use? Or is it just how strong/weak your preference is?

    Dry Spicing

Without a doubt I will be looking into some recipes that utilize that technique. In fact, probably my next batch. Very interesting concept to me. Also it's something that I haven't heard any of my friends that brew mention so there's that motivation as well.

    Dry Spicing

I appreciate the response. It is very helpful. I have found several spice mix recipes here in forums. I've got the idea there. Your tincture suggestion is a new technique to me and I will definitely give it a go soon. Probably going to run with the tea method this time.

    Dry Spicing

This will be my first time giving a personal touch to an extract kit. I wanted to get a few batches under my belt before changing things up. I'm doing a pumpkin ale and I've been told that it has a slight pumpkin taste to it. Well, my friends and I are fond of the "holy crap this tastes like a...

    But I don't wanna...

Absolutely. I've notice Sweetwater Brewery' labels seem to be welded on.

    But I don't wanna...

Well after one night of soaking in the PBW labels are starting to float to the top. I like the straining idea. I'll give it a try. Bit as of now everything is going as hoped for.

    Smashing Pumkin Ale

I'm really going for a "slice of pie" beer. I may add a tablespoon of spice mixture. I love pumpkin beer so I plan on doing at least one more batch.
  18. Pilgrumbrews

    But I don't wanna...

If I'm reusing it for labels again would the gunk matter much? I've never used the product before so I'm not sure what to expect.

    Smashing Pumkin Ale

I am about to brew an extract kit from Northern Brewer, the Smashing Pumpkin Ale. I haven't tried it before so I'm a bit leery as to how much flavor it has. I was thinking about dry spicing it a little. Has anyone made this kit? If so how did it turn out? And to those reading this that haven't...

    But I don't wanna...

Does anyone know how long a batch of PBW keeps it's strength? I ask because I'm wondering if I could make a small batch, soak a set of bottles over night then reuse the solution for more bottles.
