What I did for beer today

After mashing for my first runnings my brother and I weighed out the grist on a stout and ground it for our next session in a couple of weeks. Loving our cereal killer!

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Just finished up an APA, it's cooling down in the swamp cooler. Will transfer it over to the fermenter soon and pitch in the am. I came in low on my preboil gravity (1.042 vs expected 1.050), but OG was spot on at 1.060! It was a miracle! Actually a bigger boil pot and more vigorous boil... Lol

Top 3 base grains to store in bulk discussion

Since I like American ales, British ales and Belgian ales I tend to keep US 2-row, pilsner and wheat on hand. Haven't found a good outlet for Maris Otter or Golden Promise yet but that would be the third option (rotating wheat and GP/MO).

What I did for beer today

For Christmas we got several 50ml tubes for yeast to be frozen and stored. That looks cool!

What I did for beer today

Ordered several grains, from Munich and vienna to C10 and C60 (and Maris Otter!) In 5# & 10# increments. My brother and I were getting together ingredients for our next 3 or 4 brews and I was dismayed at how low my stock had gotten!

Help me clear my malt inventory.

I would use the 10# of two row with the honey and victory malt in a place ale. All the rest can be a German type/style. The special B is more difficult because a little goes a long way

What I did for beer today

It's got 5# of red ale malt from Viking so it's got good color. Also very malty which I like

I've got 5 but only use three really. Got a new one (a fermonster) but need to find a gasket that fits the lid

    Carbonation problems

Your issue may be how you measured your priming medium. I used to estimate volume (half cup, full cup, etc) and carbonation was very inconsistent. Then I learned weighing the priming sugars was much better and more consistent. It can be grams or ounces, but it's more accurate to weigh than...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Making my APA that was my very first recipe that wasn't following a kit or prior recipe... It feels good to get the pipeline back up to snuff
