    Renters Wine rack (planning phase)

I'm in the same boat. I'm making wine, but will end up moving before I drink it all. My concerns with designing a wood crate is cost and weight. The issue of cost is different for everyone, so I won't comment on that. Weight - how much do you think it will weigh? I did a rough estimate...

March pump and stainless false bottom & more

I'm interested in the valves. Sent email.

    Kicked again!

If you really want to know, get yourself a kegbot. http://kegbot.org/ You can set it up for RFID access and it will track who is drinking what, how much, and when. Here's an example: http://kegbot.homeip.net:8000/ Honestly, I don't want to know how much I'm drinking :mug:

Great Taste of the Midwest - Madison, WI

Try for the mail in lottery. Seriously. My fellow homebrew club members had a 70% success rate last year. Get your neighbor to mail in for you too. You should get two tickets.

    Supper Club from Capital Brewery

I have. I'm indifferent. I enjoyed it, but I didn't grab for another immediately. It's on the shelves in the MKE area, so maybe the raving popularity is localized to Madison? I think they were going for a retro beer. If that's the case, I think it's like the bottled Schlitz that's out...

Sometimes I love living in milwaukee

I hear Comet Cafe has a pretty good beer selection as well. I haven't been there since they remodeled. Honestly, we can't complain about a lack of places to drink good, quality beer around Milwaukee. The only thing I complain about is volunteering to DD...

    Growlers

Limited Edition brew, on tap only. Brew pub does not bottle. If those don't apply, buy bottles and call it a day. Maybe they don't have a container cost, but it does cost them to have a building and person to fill a growler. If you want a 64oz container to drink at the bar, get a pitcher.

    Beer Tasting Party

Depends on your audience really. I would include anything you know about the beer, including style, color, ibu, abv, brewery location, other similar beers. You can probably get descriptions off the brewery web sites too. Hope that helps. Kevin

    Craigslist Score

Praxair will bend you over. Since you're in Milwaukee, I'll suggest Discount Liquor on Olklahoma (or in Waukesha) or any of the area Otto's Location (Elm Grove/Menomonee Falls, etc). As far as I know, they both fill, but have to "ship" your tanks out if they need a hydro test. I went to...

    Mead Bottling - Simple Question?

What was the safety concern? Bottles breaking while corking? I think that is something you'll have to decide on yourself, whether or not you can safely cork them. Soda bottles are meant to hold pressure (soda is carbed to something like 30psi), so a still mead won't be a problem. If you can...

Is a glass carboy a must?

There's no "lid". There is an opening that the bung is in. I believe the opening is internally threaded. The handle is designed to bear the weight of a full container. I wouldn't hang a full winpak by the handle for long term storage, but it is certainly fine for lifting/moving.

Is a glass carboy a must?

Some good pro/con analysis in this sticky: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f39/vs-pro-con-analysis-109318/ The only thing I don't like about better bottles is that you can't use vacuum pressure to degas wine. That's all.

    Fermenting in chest freezer

Yes - it's kind of a pain to get carboys and buckets into chest freezers, but it works for me. My back is still young enough that I can do it. It is much easier to put carboys into an upright fridge/freezer. You don't have to be as careful with kegs in a keezer, which makes it easier :ban:

2 5 gallon igloo seat top cooler w/spigot

Two most common uses for coolers are mash tuns and hot liquor tanks. The 5 gallon size can be limiting for a mash tun depending on batch size and grain bill. I don't think a 5 gallon cooler would work for a HLT, unless your batch size is less than 5 gallons. You could always use one of them...

Electric Rig Wiring help needed.. any E.E.'s out there?

I missed the comment that said you don't need them. If you want the BCS-460 to control the 110v receptacles, then you need an SSR or a mechanical relay. Both of them are switches operated by electricity. Make sense? Each have their pros and cons. If you have a short cycle time, SSR is the...

    hand blown glass tap handles

From Yoopers link: "If you are a business or sell products or services you must be a registered Vendor in order to post anything business related or send any business related communications on HomeBrewTalk.com." I believe the ad you posted falls under that statement, since they are being...

    Any refrigerator experts out there?

I'm not an expert... If your coils are icing up, its possible the coil defroster/heater went bad. It's possible your unit doesn't operate this way, but this is what happened to a friend of mine.

    What size chest freezer?

What model do you own? Some can do both (one at a time) with a minor adjustment. Another option would be a space heater with a built-in thermostat. I bought one at Lowes for about $25 last year. Then you don't need to worry about whether or not your model can work with a heater, and it...

    Midwest Brew Tour

Skip Minhaus. Look for the threads on Lazy Mutt. FYI, there's also a Rock Bottom in Milwaukee. In fact, there's a boat tour that takes you from Lakefront Brewery, to Rock Bottom and then to Milwaukee Ale House (all on the river). The other WI suggestions are great. The only other I...
