    Lakefront's Riverwest Stein - Recipe/Clone

Yea, I'm digging up an old thread. Although, there isn't much out there on this beer, so I figured I would add some notes to this thread (for the next time I google clones of this brew...) I'm looking to brew this for the wifey, so I am doing some research. The spreadhsheet that Sagan...

    Wort chiller

I'd say no, they're not recirculating since they're using gravity. If MC Escher were a homebrewer, I bet he recirc'ed using gravity. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waterfall_%28M._C._Escher%29 :)

    Started my Fermentation chamber

For heat, you can use a cheap hair dryer. Built in fan is a bonus, less DIY, though it may look kind of cheesy.

Out of town for 6 months... what do you brew?

Don't overthink it too much. Brew what you like. I recently had a pale, cream, blonde and a porter that I brewed last spring. They all still tasted great! Although, I'll agree that it's a good time to brew a big beer, since you won't be able to dip into it early :)

    5 gallon food grade buckets

I'm with you on this one. The last Port-o-John I was in was stamped #2 recyclable. That shows that lots of plastic can be #2.

Best liquor store vintage beer find?

Goose Island Imperial IPA in the discount cart. Marked down from $20 to $10. I got it when it was already 2.5 years old. I think I drank the last at 4 years. It was surprisingly good. Sure it probably didn't have the hop aroma it once did, but it had a great malt flavor with good bitterness...

My New 15 gal Fermenter - Need Help

The crummy part of this plan is that the keg post uses an odd size, 19/32". You can buy adapters from http://www.midwestsupplies.com or http://www.chicompany.net/ http://www.midwestsupplies.com/cornelius-plug-adapter-1-4-mpt.html...

tenth and blake..... it had to happen sometime.

I was at the World of Beer Festival in Milwaukee this year. The "Valley Brewery (MillerCoors Tech Center Pilot brewery)" was there. Of course, I don't recall what they had and the brewery listing says "TBD". What I do remember was they had a delicious IPA/APA with Sorachi Ace. If that is the...

    Madison, WI breweries??

That was definitely Wando's. Maduro is a cigar bar near Great Dane downtown, but they have delicious beer. When I was there 2 years ago, they had Red Rocket and Samiclaus on tap, among other beers of that caliber. Their website doesn't list beers. Worth a stop if already going to Great Dane.

kegerator CO2 system help. Will this work?

Everyone else has had good ideas, here's my $.02 A few options: Leave all the high pressure outside. Move one of your regulators outside, on the tank. Use low pressure tubing into the fridge. This will be your highest pressure. Feed that to a manifold or stainless cross. From the cross...

kegerator CO2 system help. Will this work?

Specifically, what problem are you trying to solve with the part above? Are you trying to get a connection to a secondary regulator inside the fridge?

    DIY e-kettle opinions wanted

Or if he wants to heat strike water without watching it, or overshooting temp. I agree though, for boiling, a PID has no advantage over a PWM circuit. For sure :mug: Personally, I'm still in the PWM vs PID boat. It's a DIY vs cost thing. I'm too lazy right now to etch a board.

    DIY e-kettle opinions wanted

A PID will let you specify a temperature. It will reach that temperature and maintain it. This is helpful for heat strike water, etc. Useless for maintaining a boil. (I think that's the additional functionality jfkriege alluded to) Some PIDs have a manual mode, which will let you specify...

    DIY e-kettle opinions wanted

It seems like you want to do it yourself, so I would go that route. Agreed. Also look at what jkarp did with his Countertop Brutus 20. Others have cloned this as well. Both of these setups use PIDs. The High Gravity controller appears to use a PWM circuit to trigger the SSR. If you...
