How many of you enjoyed your first

My first brew turned out good even after I made a bunch of mistakes like repitching and opening the lid everyday to see what was happening inside. It was a little rough at first but then I let it condition in the bottles for a few more weeks and it got better with time. I guess Mr Beer kits are...

My first Saison and I liked it - what are your favorites?

I've heard of Ommegang from out of NY and tried to order one a few weeks ago at the pub but they were out. Can't wait to try it.

My first Saison and I liked it - what are your favorites?

I had my first saison last night, or at least it was the first time I chose a saison on purpose and knew what I was drinking. It was Slyfox saison and it was awesome. A kind of an experience if you know what I mean, and now I understand why this is such a popular spring/summer beer. I liked...

    Brewers near dubois pa. ?

I'm in Coalport and new to brewing. I'm a 45 minute drive from DuBois, and I go there occasionally. Starting a club is a good idea. -Darren

    Home brew blues!

I got nothing but Miller Lite in my fridge , but this weekend my batch of dark winter ale will/should be ready for consumption and also doing my first partial mash on Sunday --> :D Funny how hard it is to drink my old standby beer Miller once I started home brewing.

...with cherries, sorry I can't help you with your question but this combination sounds great. I'm logging this for future reference. -DZ

Just went back and tasted my first ever homebrew

With my limited experience I discovered with my first batch that their was a definite improvement from week 1 in the bottle and week2, and tasted real good after week 3. My second batch (dark winter ale) is ready to sample this weekend, I expect that it might be a little weak b/c I only...

    Experimenting with Red Ale

Thanks emmdubb23, that is good advice and I may end up waiting for another brew to do the experiment but no harm in asking ahead of time to find something I really want to do. -DZ

    Experimenting with Red Ale

Hey all, I'm brewing my first red ale this weekend and like other newbies I'm anxious to experiment a little. I'm interested in splitting the batch and doing something a bit different with a portion of the brew. I just saw a post from someone who was adding oak chips or cubes to his red ale...

First Brew Day Of 2013!!! What are you making?

I just picked up the ingredients to do a Red Ale in my new fermenter. I also just bottled a winter ale that should be ready to sample next Sunday. :ban:

Beers that make you think of spring

I've been wondering the same thing. What kind of brew could I do that would be perfect to break out next spring, during fishing season or around a campfire? I was thinking maybe a saison. Anyone?

    WOW beers! What are yours?

This is one of my favorites at the pub. Would it be hard to make for a rookie? -DZ

    WOW beers! What are yours?

Seems to be a few votes for kolsch and hefeweizens. I really feel like an amateur home brewer now b/c I haven't tried either of these popular beer, at least to the best of my knowledge.

Are you the Black Sheep of your neighborhood?

I live in a rural area that is rampant with drugs and crime...several times this year I could smell the scent of pot coming from the neighbors house straight into my window, so it's very likely my home brewing isn't going to attract any negative attention. Also around here you have to travel...

    primary bucket carbonation

I just got a beer kit with bottling bucket for Christmas and was wondering the same thing. Does it make sense to transfer beer from bucket to carboy after fermentation then back to clean bucket for bottling? Or just buy another bucket.

    A beer for her?

My girl generally doesn't like beer but does occasionally find one she likes with no rhyme or reason behind the taste or style. Although she does really like the Woodchuck Hard Cider.

    How snobby

I'm all for free enterprise so I have nothing against the corporate breweries. I also drink Corona, keep a case of Miller Lite on hand, although I've snobbed it up a bit and will only drink it from a glass. Also when drinking at a friends house my beer choices are pretty much warm Busch Light...

    WOW beers! What are yours?

I know the beer drinker you are talking about. I have friends dedicated to drinking Budweiser, Genny, Rolling Rock, Schlitz for the past 30 years, and there is no convincing them there are other alternatives. They wouldn't even try a Yingling or Corona, would never even drink a decent glass of...

    Worst Food-Beer Pairing?

Have you ever been to a beer dinner? If you haven't I suggest attending one b/c I've been to a few and always find it amazing how they pair the craft beers with food. The last one I went to they made a salad dressing from the paired beer, it was an awesome combination. And at another they...
