Any beers you changed your mind on since you started homebrewing?

well I only have brewed three batches to date since taking on this new hobby but the one beer I believe I've lost interest in slightly are barleywines. Just not into the high alcohol content.

    Air lock activity question

The airlock on my red ale did the exact same thing, on day 2-3 it bubbled like crazy (was fun to watch) then it quit one day and nothing since for the last two weeks. Samples I've taken seem fine, but I haven't done another gravity reading yet. I know it will be okay for bottling on Sunday.

    First brew lessons/thoughts

Never heard of vodka in the airlock but it sounds like a good way to get rid of some cheap vodka.

    Is this okay?

I used the booster before and it didn't look anything like that.

    Share your brewing nightmares

I don't have dreams about brewing but I fall asleep to thoughts of brewing nearly every night. Wondering what kind of brew I can do for this winter, how many saisons can I have ready for summer, what kind of black beers can I brew. I think about how to launch a local homebrew event, make wort...

Does brewing cause you to drink more beer?

I'm drinking less here because even though I'm new at this I find my brews to be much more gratifying than the commercial beers I'm used to drinking, so I need less. Also everything I've brewed so far have been hopped beers, and even though I enjoy them, my taste buds can only handle one or two...

    1st taste after bottling

I'm only on my third brew but the first lesson I learned was to let them bottle for at least two weeks before trying one. The huge difference even two days can make is remarkable. Also do let it chill overnight.

Kolsch Extract vs Honey Kolsch Extract

Hey All, I'm thinking of brewing a kolsch for my next brew. Northern Brewer has a few options. Does anyone have opinions of the Kolsch extract and Honey Kolsch extract. If you tried then both which one do you like best and for what reasons? Kolsch Extract Honey Kolsch extract -DZ

What came in the mail for you today?

I just got my hydrometer jar in the mail yesterday. I bought it on Amazon for something like $3.99; it's a bit cheap and wobbly, and I can see it tipping over and breaking my hydrometer one day. I shouldn't have been thinking "economy" when I made this purchase. -DZ

What instructional video do you want to see?

I believe a video of the difference between steeping grains with extract and partial mash. I think this is one of the most confusing issues for newbies.

OG Lower than expected - what now?

Thanks for the information everybody. Although an easy brew, I learned a lot from doing it. I think I'll do another easy extract kit like this one before moving onto something more challenging. I made a few dumb mistakes i.e., disregarding temperature when I took my OG. I even knew better but...

OG Lower than expected - what now?

    It was extract with steeping.

OG Lower than expected - what now?

Actually I meant that my recommended OG was 1.048-1.052 but I came in at 1.042. I topped off with water, I was wondering if this could have been an issue with OG reading. Directions said 70 degrees , so that's what I did but might have been 1-2 degrees off though, would that matter?

OG Lower than expected - what now?

Hey all, Today I did my first homebrew that was not a MR Beer kit, and it was the first time I took OG readings and actually had to rack my beer with the racking cane. Interesting day. Anyhow, my recommended OG was 1.048-1.042, but the reading I got was 1.042. What ramifications could...

What came in the mail for you today?

Today I received in the mail a programmable thermometer and stainless measuring spoons. Never thought I'd be so excited about spoons. I'm still waiting on my hydrometer jar, hoping I get it before Sunday or I might have to postpone until next weekend. Wondering if I could just use the plastic...

    Sick of early Seasonal releases

I had a saison the other night. It tasted great but something didn't feel quite right because I knew it was cold and miserable outside and I usually drink heavier beers this time of year.
