Belgian Saison ( Brewers Best Extract Kit )

@amie I just brewed this kit two weeks ago, seems like a popular one lately. It's been two weeks in primary already and still bubbling, so I'm going with three weeks in primary then a week in secondary. The only reason I'm doing the secondary is because I'll be having a surgery and won't be able...

    What my wife says

Some women get pissed when we have hobbies and they don't. Mine is glad I'm brewing at home and not spending my free time in the bars. She doesn't even mind the money I spend b/c I would be spending much more hanging around in bars.

    Suggestions please..

Maybe it could be water but we have some bad water here and I haven't had any problems with it affecting my beer. It even makes me squint when I drink it...like whiskey face after a shot of Yukon Jack.

    Suggestions please..

Rookie going out on a limb here...but I'm guessing it's the hops you don't like, or maybe the malt because I don't think those beers you mentioned are big hop beers. And I've tasted malt that had a weird after taste early in the fermentation. Also it's really hard to screw up a Mr Beer kit...

    Dry beer explanation

I see a lot of comments about dry beer, but I have no idea what dry beer actually means. What causes dry beer and what does it taste like? How do you know if your beer is dry and is it necessarily a bad thing? Are certain styles more susceptible to this? I'm such a newbie! :o

    Saison primary temperature fluctuations

Hey All, I have a saison in the primary for a week now and still bubbling. The first few days it was in a cool room at about 65-70 degrees. Yesterday I moved it to the warmest room in the house which has a pellet stove, so the temperature fluctuates from about 67-80 degrees several times a...

    Extract Kit Recommendations

I like Brewers Best. They are in the $30 - $45. The only other extract kits I have experience with are Mr Beer.

    First time brewer.

Not sure if this is your problem but the first lesson I learned in brewing is a minimum of 3 weeks for bottle conditioning. There is an amazing difference between the second and third week. Also I started out with a MR Beer kit. Nothing wrong with it as I think it's a great way to learn the...

Northeast US trip soon, what beers to look for?

If you are in Central PA consider stopping at Otto's in State College and Marzoni's in Altoona. Otto's has a dark cask beer that will raise your bar on cask beers.

Importance of the water you use

I've only done three brews to date and they all turned out good. I used our tap water on all batches and it is not the best tasting water.

Found an old batch of Maarzen....like 1 year old

How did you just find an old batch of beer sitting around? Did you look in the attic? I'm curious to see how this turns out for you.

    PA licensing/sales/distribution

I recently bought craft beer in our local grocery store in Altoona Pa. Seriously too expensive - a six pack was $18. I did it once and never again.

Only 2 reasons to ever look at your airlock

I use mine to watch the tiny bubbles. The first time I think I even giggled like a little girl.

Lower ABV than expected - possible causes

Sorry, I meant if higher mash temps can affect the ABV what effect would the steeping temps have on it?

Lower ABV than expected - possible causes

hey all, This was a red ale extract kit and my ABV turned out at around 3.5 but should have been around 5.1. I have some questions. I believe I could have screwed up my OG reading because I forgot to factor temperature into the reading, but what other issues could affect this? I read on...
