    Drinking beer early???

Interesting, I thought I was drinking the unsettled yeast, or extra sugar not used yet to prime the brew. It's happened twice with my last two brews so I don't think its random. I know I should wait 2 wks but I like giving it a go just to see at 5 days. Now I'm wondering if I have a mild...

    Drinking beer early???

Ok, so I was a bad boy and I drank a few of my recent beers at the 5 day mark after bottling them. I had three beers and they were actually really good although a bit cloudy. Tastes just like a German Wheat beer. Anyway, the hangover I got off three beers is pretty bad! Like a splitting...

    First Brew Tastes Foul!

I have found that the cheap yeast that comes with the kits gives a bit of a sour apple taste. I substituted my recent kit with better yeast and have a much improved flavour.

    Grapefruit IPA

First time dry hop and secondary

Noob here, but I just did an IPA that I dry hopped in the primary. Did not rack to secondary as advised to me from people on here. It worked very well, my IPA is the best beer I have done so far. I wont be racking to a secondary for the foreseeable future.

Muntons IPA Kit - Kicked Up With Success

Well, it is my fourth brew and I must say I finally produced one that I am really happy with. It has been my winter hobby I guess the past 3 months, and by god it has been cold in Ottawa this year. Horrible really. I am just doing it the "noob" way and messing with the simple kits. But here is...

Swing tops, plastic gaskit, no carbonation?

Maybe flipping them over actually was a mistake lol. All this seems to point to the fact that I will move to capping my next batch probably, at least taking those specific swing tops out of rotation anyway. Although I'm sure that comes with its own bumps as well. Thanks for the info everyone.

Swing tops, plastic gaskit, no carbonation?

Is it possible for certain bottles to take longer to "carbonate up" than others? Just curious if I wait another week if those specific bottles, for some other reason, take longer to "carbonate up."

Swing tops, plastic gaskit, no carbonation?

I found another thread where someone is saying they get 50 uses out of a gasket before they replace it lol. I actually have an extra large Grolsch bottle that has a permanent non-removable gasket on it. I clean it well and it is working fine. Seems weird that they worked for 2 batches...

Swing tops, plastic gaskit, no carbonation?

Ok, soooo, I just did a cardamon brown ale. Actually pretty happy with it, except, many of the bottles did not seem to carbonate up. I use mostly swing tops. I purchased these swing tops filled with a German beer (not Grolsch) they worked fine for my previous first three beer brews. Now the...

    Cardamom overload!

Using this scale would mean I should have used 3-6 in my fermentation pail. I cant really remember how much I used but it was probably close to three times that if I had to guess. More like 15-20 cracked pods. It didnt seem like a lot at the time lol

    Cardamom overload!

I would give it a go but use a small amount haha. I think it depends on the type of cardamom or if it is powdered or not? I may have been looking at 1 ounce of powdered cardamom. If I had used a whole ounce it would have been insane.

    Cardamom overload!

Its blown my mind that such a small amount has made so much flavor. It is a "brown ale"... I also added a vanilla bean, 1 oz of hopps, and cinnamon stick (of coursed sanitized in bourbon) to the secondary. I was essentially trying to copy this local beer. I knew it wouldn't be exact but, all...

    Cardamom overload!

Long story short, there is a craft beer her locally I love. I was curious what gave it its very unique flavor. Discovered it was cardamom. I did a little research about adding it to a home brew. Found some advice that recommended 1 oz to the boil. When I opened the cardamom package I got it...

Third brew dry hop, to rack or not rack secondary?

I am probably under hopping then. I guess I just didn't want to go overboard and end up with some mega hop beer. I could stand to add a few more ounces for sure. Out of curiosity what hop combination did you use? I was recommended to combine centennial and citra.

Third brew dry hop, to rack or not rack secondary?

Well there was some good info here thanks and cheers. I will pass on the secondary for the foreseeable future.

Third brew dry hop, to rack or not rack secondary?

You dry hopped 13 oz?! I have been doing 1-2 oz dry hopped. How is it with 13?

Third brew dry hop, to rack or not rack secondary?

Cold crash, I had to look that up. Don't think that's possible, at least right now. hummmm.

Third brew dry hop, to rack or not rack secondary?

So... well... what is the benefit of racking to secondary at all then? I got my instructions with my brewing kit, the kit was pretty inclusive and included detailed instructions. Anyway, its says rack to secondary. Is it to clear up the beer in theory?

Third brew dry hop, to rack or not rack secondary?

I am on my third brew, first one was borderline awful, second one was pretty decent... getting there. Anyway, I have an IPA kit in the primary right now. I just used a kit, but I used the dry malt extract, some "expensive" yeast, and 1/2 ounce centennial hops, and 1/2 ounce citra hopps in...
