Do you really need a pid

There's been a lot of healthy discussion in this thread since I was here last, and many well reasoned arguments. I agree with pretty much everything said. I just want to add that something like the EZBoil (or DSPR1) is a much better choice than an SSVR. An SSVR is basically a dimmer, and will...

Do you really need a pid

Of course you don't need a PID. You don't need to heat the mash at all. Simplest thing to do is just mash in and leave it for an hour, and that will still work great. Even with recirculation and heating, you don't need a PID, you can do manual control. Watch the thermometer and turn element...

    Stc-1000+

@stagefever: I've only got A400_P ones and have put a lot of work into getting the software to where it is now. I know where to get more A400_P ones if i should need them. I neither can (since I don't have any of that model) nor do I have much time and interest in porting it. I'll gladly help...

    Stc-1000+

@stagefever: I think that is the first non A400_P STC-1000 that I've seen that has a 'sane' MCU (documentation and toolwise). It would require some work, but that hardware at least should be reasonably possible to reprogram.

    Stc-1000+

@gillie: 2 sensor FW uses the 'unused' pin to read an extra sensor, com FW uses the pin to communicate with an arduino, OVBSC uses the pin for pump control. If you want OVBSC but with 2 sensors, all the source code is available (that is, all the *hard* work is already done). So, feel free to...

    Stupidest Song Lyrics EVER!

You can close this thread now. 'The look' by Roxette. One, two, three, four walking like a man Hitting like a hammer She's a juvenile scam Never was a quitter Tasty like a raindrop She's got the look Heavenly bound Cause heaven's got a number When she's spinning me around Kissing is a color Her...

Mounting a SSR with heatsink in a PVC box

I think that was a good call :) I bet will end up really slick. Best of luck!

Mounting a SSR with heatsink in a PVC box

That heat sink was intended for DIN rail mounting. Nothing wrong with that, but the way I would do it, would be to cut a hole the size of the SSR in the box, then get a heat sink that is larger than then the SSR, mount the SSR to the heatsink and then the heat sink to the box.

    Bread Machine motorized Grain Mill

@jdr01: Weird. I assume you've checked the gap as well. I know nothing about that motor, but just from the size of it, it looks like it would be able to at least crush *some* grains. Good luck!

    Bread Machine motorized Grain Mill

@jdr01: A larger pulley is probably the way to go, but in the meantime you try to limit the amount of grain it feeds and see if you can at least get it running. You can use cardboard and tape for example to make the hole in the bottom of the hopper smaller. What RPM is it now? I like that he...

    Anybody up for a riddle?

But I think the leading zero in the initial sequence should not be there, as 0+1≠2. Edit: Or it should be 011235...

Roller Grain Mill From Homebrew Supply

I don't own one myself, but I've seen some mixed reviews. Some seem to think that it is great value for money, others reason that it is better to 'buy once' and get a (more expensive) high quality mill. Here's one (positive) review, although note that that is a Brewferm branded, but similar...

Dirt cheap, motorized, miniature, roller mill

I just finished the third (and probably final) prototype of my miniature motorized roller mill. I'm happy to say it now works 100% to my satisfaction. I changed to friction drive of the second roller, and it seems to work really well. A close up video of it milling malt: The 'tour' video: If...

Dirt cheap, motorized, miniature, roller mill

@JohnSand: I very much like the idea of a hopper that fits the rest of the parts. I'm ok too with a smaller hopper, since you'll have your hands free to top up. I've talked about the Matt mill before. I really like the size of that thing. Here's a german brewer that used a similar motor to...

Dirt cheap, motorized, miniature, roller mill

First I thought you were happy to see... something... But I guess that is your knee :) There's something else in front of the mill, no? Platechiller? For extra weight? That is a pretty darn attractive solution! Kudos!

Empty packet fell in cool wort...leave it?

Bacteria multiply a lot faster than yeast. On the other hand you just added a couple of billion of yeasties (hopefully) ready to battle! You want speculation, here's mine: I'd say that there's a 1 to 10% risk of an infection, from that incident, that would make the beer a dumper. Further, I'd...

Dirt cheap, motorized, miniature, roller mill

@Stillraining: Smaller motor an slower crush, means a lot quieter operation. Personally, I prefer a smaller footprint over faster crushing. But I agree, if someone were to market a thing like this (and I really hope someone does!), it would probably need to be reasonably fast. Like I said...
