    Apollo Hops!

No joke. It's all good though. It might take like 2 years of bottle conditioning but I'll drink it.

    Apollo Hops!

Soooo..... I just tried my first after only a week of being bottled (I got antsy and had to try) aaaannnndd.... It totally tastes like soap. lol Couple things to note. In a different style beer (aka not an IPA) this might have been ok in smaller doses as an aroma hope. Let's hope that the...

Brown Sugar - Chocolate Stout Question

Ok... ok... I will definitely be throttling back the Black Patent and the Brown Sugar. How does the 4 oz of bp and 1 lbs of Brown Sugar sound?

Brown Sugar - Chocolate Stout Question

How much will it thin the beer though? 1017 seems ok to me. And Blackbeer, I was unaware that BP would bitter my beer. Like I said, first stout. How much do you recommend?

Brown Sugar - Chocolate Stout Question

So I want to brew my first stout. I have had a few known problems with my last few brews that lead to a pretty weak beer. Long story short, I want to build a good strong stout with body out the wazzou (SP?). Here is the plan... Steeping grains: 1 lbs Pale Chocolate 1 lbs Crystal 60 1...

    Apollo Hops!

Bottled this weekend... Tasted like dish soap. I really hope that goes away but I won't hold my breath. I did also just learn that my city uses a fair amount of chlorine in the water so I have acquired some Campden tablets. Hopefully that helps my cause. We'll see if the taste gets any better...

    Prime the Secondary?

Yeah. I'll likely wait until I have another Carboy. Also love the profile pic Jethro. Great documentary!

    Prime the Secondary?

So I have been wanting to rack some beer to secondary (I know there are a lot of non-believers out there but please control yourselves) but I feel like I need a smaller carboy. I use a 6.5 gal carboy for my 5 gal batches and many people say that this is too big and will lead to oxidation when...

    Apollo Hops!

So I just took my gravity and taste-tested it last night. It really wasn't all that bad (however, I may have already been drinking just a little bit and I also may have been drinking Union Jack so my pallet was pretty well saturated with hops already) but regardless, I decided to Dry Hop with my...

    What are you drinking now?

Boulevard Smoke Stack Series Chocolate Ale. Fantastic! Bitter sweet. Not overpowering. Great for dessert. Also, it's a really pretty beer. Poor it in the right glass and you get a big beautiful head. Hold it in the light and it's a translucent amber color. I'd love this in a beer float but for...

    beer and protein powder...

Sounds great! Quasi-science is my specialty. One thing that I have noticed in reading (not any actual experience with this) brewers will often say to boil additives either before adding them or in the wort itself. But flameout will likely be hot enough to render the same bacteria killing effect.

    Apollo Hops!

I love cascade. Sierra Nevada is one if my favorite breweries (although I haven't tried as many of their brews as I'd like). I am still holding out hope for this one. Not getting my hopes too high but there is no way that I won't enjoy this beer in one way or another. Dry hopping really is...

    Apollo Hops!

Not trying to run some cheese ad campaign but you should check out morebeer.com. They have a crazy awesome selection. They ship crazy fast and if your order is $60 or more you get free shipping. I can usually find $60 worth of crap I need (or my fiends need) or I can just buy for the next two...

    Carboy Bomb

Huge bummer. One of my friend's dogs knocked his Carboy over spilling his cream of three crops last summer. The real puzzle was that by the time he got home, all the beer had been "cleaned up". #thedog'sdrunk Somehow the dogs survived.

    Oatmeal Stout

That is the impression that I always got and that's why I haven't tried this one yet.

    Apollo Hops!

It is indeed a lot of hops. I have, however, already commenced brewing. In fact it's been fermenting for a week. It did cross my mind to make it a double but I chose to beef up the body on specialty grains instead of fermentables. Hopefully I gained enough balance to make it potable (balance be...

    Apollo Hops!

No offense taken... I am very new at this so feel free to treat me like a brew-noob. I have had it in primary for a week already so I was planning on racking at 14 days. Sorry, my first post was not clear on that. I have seen a ton of people, including some of my personal friends, who all say...

    beer and protein powder...

So, my two cents... I was anti-protein for a long time. I was shocked to see how much a protein shake and a red bell pepper (anti-oxidants) would help my muscle recovery and stop those nasty aches and pains. /now back to beer I would take all of the above negativity with a big grain of salt...

    Apollo Hops!

Anyone have any insight into this beastly botanical? I ordered 8 ounces of it from MoreBeer! with the intentions of creating my own Single Hop Series IPA with it. Admittedly, I am absolutely terrified of what the results will yield. I added 2 oz at 60 minutes, 2 oz at 30, 1 oz at 10 and 1 at...

    Oatmeal Stout

Will this still yield the pleasant creamy oatmeal flavor that one normally looks for in this style of beer? I have been wanting to do an extract oatmeal stout for a while now and I particularly like creamy oatmeal stouts. I am especially partial to Schlafly's oatmeal stout.
