Help a noob with a Medalla Light clone

Nice catch exo.. didn't even notice the lager yeast. fezzman, odds are you had an extract kit with specialty grains. What you did was make a grain "tea" and then rinse off the grains & continue with extracts. Mini mashing requires you to hit a certain temperature & maintain it to convert...

Help a noob with a Medalla Light clone

For your second batch I would choose the following options: - Extract - White Labs or Wyeast Activator (both are liquid) - Yes on the ice pack - not sure about the yeast fuel - Yes on the priming sugar I would get the ice pack because of the heat. You want to give the yeast the best chance to...

Krausen-Poker II: This Time, It's Personal

It took 2 weeks again, but the krausen fell and I racked to the secondary on Sunday.

Krausen-Poker II: This Time, It's Personal

I haven't had a krausen that hasn't fallen on its own yet. Some have taken longer than others, but they have fallen. :knock on wood: I'll keep you posted if it doesn't fall by this weekend.

Krausen-Poker II: This Time, It's Personal

I've had the same thing on my last 2 beers. The last one was Cheesefood's Vanilla Cream Ale & this one is a Golden Ale. I brewed the vanilla cream ale on a sunday and was going to rack it to the secondary on the following sunday before I left for a week long training trip. The krausen was...

    AHA Membership

I just joined, mainly for Zymurgy. I picked it up and was very impressed. I like it better than BYO so far. I do have a few brewpubs by me where the discount can come in handy. If I don't feel it's worth it I won't renew it... :)

How long is to long for Primary Fermentation?

Personally I would wait for the krausen to drop on its own and then I would rack to the secondary.

So I have a stupid question. What are the poppits that you can buy as an option? Whenever I've bought my cornies in the past I just buy them and an o-ring set.

Hooking up dual tap for home brew???

I would look into getting a Double CO2 regulator. Here's an example: http://www.northernbrewer.com/regulators.html You can probably find it elsewhere, but there's an idea of what to look for.

Where is good for kegging systems?

I bought my kegging system from my LHBS for about 70 bucks less. I would buy the CO2 tank from ebay like Brewiz recommended and look into a kegging system from Austin Homebrew or Northern Brewer: http://www.austinhomebrew.com/index.php?cPath=178_40_271 click on Homebrew Kegging Outfit...

    First Label, Be Nice

Good label and far better than I could do. A couple of suggestions though: Try to get the colors of the Calder Cup Cream Ale to match the banner's red & blue colors. I would change the fonts on the your brewery name & the image ripoff disclaimer to something a little more readable.

    Can i bottle?

Since you're going to secondary it, I would leave it in the secondary for 2 weeks and then bottle it and let it sit in the bottle for 3 weeks. A good thing to do while you're waiting is brew more beer :) Brew another batch and put it in your primary and after a week put it in the secondary &...

    Can i bottle?

If you aren't going to use a secondary, the general rule of thumb is to keep it in the primary for 2 weeks. Remember that time is the biggest factor in homebrewing & until somebody invents a time machine, you really just need to wait it out. Your patience will be rewarded. Since you used a...

    Fermenting Idiot

I don't know about suitable alternatives, but repitch just means add more yeast. When you initially add yeast, it's referred to as "pitching the yeast".

    Brewing this afternoon- liquid yeast?

Yes to both of your questions. Real vanilla extract and it is in addition to the boil. Many have commented that you should taste it before adding the additional vanilla though as it may be too strong to your liking. I should be brewing this tomorrow if all goes to plan.

    Transporting Kegs

Short answer: Yep it can be done. Longer answer: We went on a trip with approximately an 8 hour drive & my friend brought his corny keg & CO2 tank with him. It was already pressurized & we were drinking from it within a couple of hours of us arriving at our destination. It was kicked...
