    Total Newb(rook)

A good resource to read to learn what to do: http://www.howtobrew.com/ I would try to find a local home brew shop (LHBS) and see what kind of starter kits they have. Where are you located? Other options are to buy starter kits online. There are a ton of reputable online homebrew shops out...

    Caramel cream ale?

That sounds interesting. What's the ratio of vanilla beans to vodka that you use? Do you just put the beans in whole?

    more newbie fermenting questions ....

No, you'll just have more trub. I would keep it in the primary for 2 weeks if you are not going to do a secondary & then bottle or keg it.

Why add half extract at boil, half at knockout?

I think it might be to give the beer a chance to start fermentation, but like John said I don't see why you couldn't do both the same day.

Did I pitch too much yeast?

No, you'll be fine. That's what most people do. Just keep in mind that if you start brewing bigger beers you definitely want to make a starter.

Why add half extract at boil, half at knockout?

You should check out this months BYO. They give a great breakdown of when and why to do late boils. Here's a link to the article online including recipes: http://www.byo.com/feature/1510.html

Did I pitch too much yeast?

When you activated the Wyeast pack, did it swell first?

    Is it ready to bottle

Just to add my 2 cents in. If you don't put it in the secondary, leave it in the primary for 2 weeks & then bottle

please not another pumpkin ale recipe!

Chimone, Did you leave the pumpkin from the mash in or did you remove and then just boil 1 can of pumpkin? I'm getting ready to brew a maple pumpkin ale in the next week or two.

    New Here, Hi there!

Congrats on your first brew. I would also recommend getting a second one underway. Most of the time you're a little anxious to test the first one and you drink it before it's truly ready. If you have the second one conditioning at the same time, that one should actually age properly & you'll...

How long is to long for Primary Fermentation?

I'd bottle it too Bopper. I know homebrewer_99 kept a beer in the primary for over a month and it won an award. Like Beer Snob said, there is no hard and fast rule for brewing.
