    Noob question for concentrate wine

That is what I was wondering, it has a bit of carbonation feel to it, can taste a bit of alcohol to it. I am also not sure how the yeast I used would affect flavor etc.

    Noob question for concentrate wine

No, I let it cool down to 70, the second reading was also taken at 70 ( room temp). It has an almost frothy feel to it when you take a drink.

    Noob question for concentrate wine

That's what has me scratching my head...yes. The airlock has very little action, it is a simple concentrate , sugar and a yeast packet.

    Muntons Gold Docklands Porter

This was my first batch, brewed with kit, no additional items. 7 days in primary, 9 days in secondary. Bottled and set at room temp for 7 days...gave it a taste today. Bottle had carbonation, was still at room temp, but good. Roasted malty flavor. Not as much "mouth feel" (if I am using the term...

So I checked SG last week, 1000, check it again today, 1040!? Pretty sweet still, but I am 99.9% sure that I did not err. when taking readings. What's up?

    Fermenting or not?

When I transferred to secondary I let it circulate into carboy and have kept a couple towels around it, even while in the bucket primary. I did see some airlock action, but the SG never changed. It has cleared out and there is sediment in the bottom. I am going to check it again tomorrow and...

    Cooling my wort

In my two batch experience, I went from boil (extract kits) and cooled with my cold water from the tap right to temp by the time I finished adding all the required water, stirring continuously. I am going to build a chiller though.

    Fermenting or not?

Brewed 1/5/12, Docklands Porter kit, OG 1038, moved to secondary 1/11/12, SG1018, checked again on 1/13 just to see, SG still 1018, with airlock still raised a bit (2 PC.), let it sit to condition. Checked it last night 1/19/12, SG still 1018. I emptied the airlock and reset it, it appears to be...

    Noob question for concentrate wine

Thanks, I did go ahead and air locked with instructions to the wife to remove lock if we get to much foam. Action started within a couple hours, we are cooking along!

    Noob question for concentrate wine

Made a simple juice solution, 3 concentrate and 3 c sugar water, 1 gal total. started yeast (bourgovin rc 212) at 106F, put everything into glass bottle at temp of 98. Should I place airlock right away or just cover with cloth/napkin for a 7 days then stir up and airlock?

Hoppy New Year ... first batch in!

Picked up the Muntons Candian style kit today, going to use 1# dextrose, 1# dry malt to the kit, hoping for a labatt or molson style.

Hoppy New Year ... first batch in!

Honestly, I probably would not have ever touched it had I not wanted to start another batch and directions and LHBS said it wouldn't bother. Checked recommendations of Muntons, they say 1014 or below for bottling....if nothing else I learned that I need to primary in a higher location for my...

Hoppy New Year ... first batch in!

How often do you guys peek in? I am using a ale pale, so I didn't want to disturb it any more than need be.

Hoppy New Year ... first batch in!

Also noticed when I opened bucket that 98% of krazeun (sp?) was gone, I had a very active ferment which slowed after day 4, today would be day 6. Guess I will sit back and see what happens.....

Hoppy New Year ... first batch in!

I have been 24hrs+ without airlock activity, so when I opened it even to test I was going to secondary. The box directions say to bottle after 5-7 days and allow it to clear in the bottles. I figured I can let it sit in the secondary and do the same, prime then bottle. (by DIY I meant LHBS)

Hoppy New Year ... first batch in!

Upon advice from DIY shop, and to free up my primary, I moved to secondary glass, re air locked. SP 1018+/- , gave it a taste, very skunky 68* flat beer. Hopefully some age and clarity will develop then bottle in about 7-14 days.

Hoppy New Year ... first batch in!

I'm sure there is no set time, but how long before you see any action in the airlock? My stick on thermometer is reading 68 so looks as if we are off to a great start.

Hoppy New Year ... first batch in!

Just finished starting my first of what I know is going to be an obsession! Muntons Gold, Dockside Porter. I followed the directions, and my only concern is that by the time I finished adding my cold water to the fermenter the temp had dropped to 70F, so I added the yeast packet and topped the...
