Marking the inside of my cooler mash tun

I want to make gallon marks on the inside of my mash tun for water level. I'm guessing that it may not be a great idea to just use a Sharpie. Will a permanent marker that is dried up impart any chemicals or anything that I don't want into my wort? Any other ideas that might work?

    No-hop porter

I admire your experimental spirit and appreciate you posting your results, but I must question your judgment to leave out the glorious hops. No idea if your plan will have any effect. I'm totally scattershooting here, but you could always use the beer for cooking. What about a Soy Sauce...

Help converting extract recipe into AG

    I've used Munton's, which looks like it's 65% wheat.

    Blackberry Imperial Porter

I made a Blackberry Pale Ale last year and it didn't turn out very good. I used 2 lbs. of frozen berries in the secondary. I can only speculate on how it would work with a porter, but be careful about your choice of hops. I used cascade and I think that was a poor decision because the...

Help converting extract recipe into AG

Doing my first AG brew next week. I've made this Blonde Ale extract recipe a few times now with a ton of success and I'd like to duplicate it with All-Grain. Can someone please help out a guy who doesn't know his grains all that well yet? I'm assuming mostly Two-Row, but don't know where to...

    Heat Dangers from Turkey Fryer?

Thanks for the reply. We're talking about 6 inches or so. I haven't installed the tile permanently or anything. It's just a piece of tile that the burner sits on top of. There is nothing currently between the burner and the glass door.

    Heat Dangers from Turkey Fryer?

So, I've just finished building a wooden brew stand. I have used ceramic tiles to shield the heat from the turkey fryer burner from the wood. My only other concern is that this brew stand will be up against my back patio door which is glass. How much of a concern is it to have the heat...

Carbonation problems with my Dubbel (bottled)

So, over 2 weeks ago, I bottled my Belgian Dubbel. I tried one after a week and it had zero carbonation. I knew one week isn't always enough, so I didn't panic. I try one after 2 weeks, though, and it's still completely flat. There are a couple things that might have happened: 1) I...

    Brewer From Houston

I'm an Aggie (class of '05) originally from Cypress, but now living out in Tucson, AZ. Welcome to the forums. I'm pretty new around here, too. Been doing extract for about a year now and plan to switch to all-grain soon. Gig 'em!

First brew ever turns out fantastic!

This is the recipe for the beer I make. I'm sure there are lots of better recipes for a Blonde/Summer Ale out there, but like I said, this has been a huge hit among BMC-drinking friends. It's good to have around because a lot of them think homebrew is fascinating, but I don't want them...

First brew ever turns out fantastic!

Congrats, man. I started about 6 months ago and I'm completely hooked on the hobby. Most of my friends are a lot like yours, but I've made a blonde ale that is pretty light and it's been a huge hit at parties. I keep making batches of it because it goes so fast. It's my way of appealing to...

    NorthernBrewer Bourbon Barrel Porter

I've got this one bubbling away like crazy right now about 48 hours after brewing. Had a nasty blowoff yesterday even though I had a blowoff hose on it. It was just a 1/4" hose in a punched bung. Went and bought a 1.25" hose to stick straight in the hole of the carboy and haven't had any...

    Belgian Saison Extract Recipe

Thought the sugar might be a lot, but it really wasn't. Fermentation was right around 78 deg F.

    Belgian Saison Extract Recipe

First time posting, but I've used a lot of great recipes from this site, so I figure when I have a good one it's time to contribute. I made the following Saison recipe this summer and it turned out fantastic, so I thought I would share. 5 gallon batch 1 lb Caramel 40L (Steep) 6 lbs...
