    Porter Braggot

Hate to bust balls, but who defined this ratio? I personally like 100% honey as all my base fermentation. In fact I have a large following of friends who agree with me. The lack of tannins and complex nutrients give my home brew a unique ... un-hangover view. But it does dehydrate like nothing...

    Cheapest you get honey?

Thats the price I was expecting people to pay, and clover honey is great for mead. Hope it works out for you.

    When's a Cyser not a Cyser

If I made Apfelwien and a Show Mead... and blended them before bottling. Would that be considered a Cyser? If I made a White wine, and blended it with a show mead would that not be a Pyment? Does a pyment and a cyser have to be defined before fermentation? Are there rules, and who made them?

    Porter Braggot

I've been making light beer recipes in which I replace the base fermentables with honey. I have had very good reviews on it. The biggest issue is time. Honey ferments slow, and it takes a long time to age. I have never done a dark brew, but I'm very willing to experiment. But I would rather...

    Porter Braggot

Don't know if I should post this on the brewing or the mead side. I thought I would give the mead forum some love. I've been tossing around the idea of a porter braggot, and I'm kinda lost on how I should formulate the recipe. My assumption is to use honey as the base fermentable. Here is...

    Cheapest you get honey?

I've heard a lot of people exclaim that wildflower honey is unfavorable. Why is this? And what classifies something as "wildflower"?

    Cheapest you get honey?

Whats the rate you get your honey equivalent to clover honey? While meeting with a bunch of beekeepers I'm able to get great raw honey on the cheap. I'm in fact thinking of reselling selling honey online. Let me know what you are paying so I can figure out if it would be worth the business...

    Honey and Mead

I was talking to a guy who had a hive at the bottom of a closed chimney and he built a bee vac and removed almost all of them, even the queen with that wooden box vac. Looks like a joke but I guess it works pretty good.

    Honey and Mead

I read BeeKeeping for Dummies to get me started. I then purchased a starter kit, another hive kit, and two top feeders from Beekeeping Equipment, Beekeeper Supplies and Beekeeping Starter Kits, spent around $300 for everything. Then I found a local beekeeper and purchased "nucs" or small...

    Honey and Mead

Took my obsession for mead to the next level. Just hived two bee colonies. Right now they are going to feed on wild sage and 1600 acres of alfalfa. Now I need suggestions of what to plant to make the perfect show mead.

    Red Vs. White in Pyment

Has anyone made pyment with red and white grapes? Could you explain how each plays on the honey? I would assume darker more complex honey works well with red grapes, but ferments longer... but I hate to assume when you wait a year for your mead to turn.

umm how long is it supposed to take?

I would degass (if there is any co2), add nutrient, and do some heavy aeration. My method is by shaking it slowly while slowly taking off a stop top. Add nutrient. Put the stop top back on and shake it violently for 4 minutes. I've noticed the longer and more violent I shake my meads the...

    Mead Mixers/Cocktails

It still has 3 months to go. I ran out of bottles so I had to store some in a 2 liter bottle. I figured I would use it to test the aging, got carried away and mixed it with some red wine and had great results.

    Mead Mixers/Cocktails

I would have to disagree. Just because something is great, does not mean its perfect. I've found mixing a small amount of merlot with mead takes almost all the heat away from both. In some cases, the sum can be greater than its parts.

    Mead Mixers/Cocktails

um.. well... I have one I guess. 1 packet artificial sweetener, 1 teaspoons lemon juice, 2 teaspoons lime juice, 12 oz medium to dry mead That's the "Bishop", and it alone could host a whole party on its saleability and tastefulness. Too many can give you heart burn tough!

    Mead Mixers/Cocktails

Has anyone made a good mixer or cocktail recipes that include mead? Like a mead sangria, or a bishop?
