Who's brewing this weekend (Feb. 16-18)?

I'm going to try my first partial-mash on Monday! Gearing up for SWMBO's favorite Barley Wine. I've justified all my expenses and experiments to date by assuring her she will have Barley Wine soon! :D

    Stout Advice

Now that you mention it, my first brew Oatmeal Stout :mug: is pretty smooth. Here's the recipe: This is a steep with Extract Steep for 30 min: 1 lb Roasted Barley .5 lb Chocolate .5 lb Black 1 lb Flaked Oats Bring to boil then add: 3.33 lb Pale LME 2 lb Amber LME 2...

    Stout Advice

I've been looking for a good creamy stout recipe. Some of the one's I've looked at for Milk stouts have lactose in it. Maybe that would help? I'm sure someone who's been brewing longer than me might have some suggestions.

    Best day of the year.

Woohoo! Go Cubbies! I miss Wrigley more than anything else in Chicago.

    How much have you spent?

About $400 so far in equipment and ingredients. Would have been much less if I knew what I was doing out of the box. Now I have 1 5 Gal Glass carboy, 1 6 Gal Better Beer carboy, 2 3 Gal Glass Carboys, 1 1 Gal Glass carboy (for mead) and lots of other miscellaneous items. Actually this...

    I may have killed it

I pitched a Wyeast vial in my brew last week and it took about 27 hours before I saw anything. I did the Caramel Cream Ale and didn't do a starter for it. After a little over a day it started going like crazy so I wouldn't sweat it too much.

    Goose Island Opinions?

I've moved away from Chicago a few years ago but their brewery has some really good Oatmeal Stout on tap. Their Octoberfest is awesome as well. PS.. Steelers fan, not a Bears fan. I'm just glad the AFC won. :mug:

    Potential Mishap

I did this on my 2nd batch of Meade. Only in a 1 Gallon jug. I frantically sterilized another carboy and poured the meade from the 1st into that. I tasted it the other day and it's still young but not too bad. I ended up breaking the carboy while trying to retrieve the stopper though...

Anderson Valley Summer solstice cervesa crema

I'm infatuated with this beer right now. I just picked up a six pack the other day and it has catapulted to my top 5. I was going to post a question out there to see if anyone has a recipe yet but searched and found this thread. Here's hoping someone has a recipe!

    Question about reading SG

That's much better. Since water is 1.0 I should have figured that one out on my own! Thanks again.

    The new guy speaks

I've gone from 1 Gal Meade kit my wife bought me for Xmas to a Mr. Beer to a 5 Gal recipe in just 3 weeks. I suspect kegging and adding a "hobby" room is just around the corner! :mug:

    Question about reading SG

That's where I was leaning. Thanks much for the advice. I'm going to assume it's pretty close to what it should be since I didn't muck with the recipe too much.

    Question about reading SG

Thanks for the quick response. Should I pull some out and test it or let it go at this point? I'm weary of contaminating it.

    Question about reading SG

So I tried my first non-kit beer today and went for the Caramel Cream Ale. It seems to have gone very well, but when I read the Hydrometer it read 1.14. Way too high and I can't imagine why except that I measured the 2 Gallon Wort that I brewed and added another 3 Gal of Cold Water to the...

    New Brewer in Jersey

2nd Uno reference. I've got to hit that joint. My wife teaches at Rutgers so I'm through Piscataway all the time. Might have to take you up on that offer Bobby.

    New Brewer in Jersey

Harvest Moon is my fav. I actually havent' been to Uno yet, just because I've lived in Chicago for 10 years and can't stand any Uno outside of the one on Rush street! Been meaning to swing down the street and try the brew though. Thanks for the welcome. I've learned a ton in the past 24...

    New Brewer in Jersey

Thanks for the link! Yes I went to Brewer's Apprentice. Nice operation there and I can't wait to try my Oatmeal Stout. I have a ton of it so I'm thinking of trying one per week for a few weeks until it is really well conditioned. Thanks for the link!
