    Recipes for spent grain

This is great! I've been munching on the spent grain while doing the boil and thought it would be great to add itto something. Thanks much! :mug:

    Batch sparge question

You got it. It will be an evening brew so I'll post results tomorrow night after I finish. :mug:

    Almost 10,000 Members!

I read somewhere that 1% of the population are homebrewers. I don't know if that's true or not but that would mean in the US alone there are 3,000,000 brewers. This is clearly the best site on the net so it wouldn't surprise me for that number to double quickly!

    Batch sparge question

I had similar problems on my first two AGs. I think the pH may have had a lot to do with it as i used spring water for my water (I don't have a water filter yet, that's the next project!) I'm planning on doing another brew tomorrow with my new pH reader and with 5star pH stabalizer. My...

    Craigs list score

Yeah that's pretty much my dilemma. I do enjoy the mad scientest aspect of homebrewing but also having the kegs will let me make beer faster (bottling slows me way down!) Thanks for the input. I suppose my decision will be made this weekend when I find out if the rest of my kegging...

    yeast starter is lookin funky

Thats a nice choice. I'm a huge fan of pretty much all of their beers. SWMBO loves their Barleywine as well.

    yeast starter is lookin funky

Just shake it really good. and you should be fine. My last starter was real clumpy but kicked off my brew in under 4 hours (Record time for me!).

    Craigs list score

I never would have thought to look at Craigs list if it wasn't for this forum. Anyway, I got myself a chest freezer on the cheap for $50. It's a small one, but it could either 1) hold 2 fermenters for temperature controlled fermentation or 2) hold 3-4 kegs and a CO2 tank. I happen to have...

    high HIGH IBU

My favorite beer I've brewed is in the 120 range with an OG of 1.071. It's the Hey!Hey! IPA in my sig. Unfortunately I've drank all but 4 bottles I locked away for aging so I'll have to wait until the one in my primary is ready! :)

    real quick.....OG?

    Before you pitch the yeast.

What beer did you want to really like but just didn't?

I hate to say this, but most Belgium Beers I'm not a huge fan of. There was one I had overseas Barbar that was an awesome strong honey ale, but most of the Trappist brews I can do without. I'm trying to develop an appreciation for them still as I was the same way with IPAs before I started...

    What a *******...(Plus, Guinness suxxorz!)

Next time just ask him what their Grand Cru is. :D

can you really get this OG?

I haven't posted this recipe yet because it's only been in the bottle for a week. It tasted really close at least on the hops profile going in. I'll let you know in a few weeks if it turned out OK. Arrogant bastard is one of my favorite brews so I'm going to keep tweaking this until I get it...

    Grand Cru

So I went to my Oracles (www.askmenow.com) and they couldn't come up with anything better than what's already on Wikipedia. It's term used for the best beer made by a brewery, usually reserved for Belgium beer styles.

    Low efficiency problems.

I've been doing some additional reading since my last two brews and I think this is probably the case (along with the pH since I'm using bottled spring water). The boiling off part shouldn't be a problem. I have no problem boiling for longer than 60 minutes if need be although I can't get...

    Low efficiency problems.

I'm batch sparging because it's easier I think. I did 2 sparges of 2 gallons each (Total grain bill was 13 lbs) Mixed in the 2 gallons, stirring while mixing in the water. Let it settle and then drained it off. When it was drained I added the 2nd batch of 2 gallons and did the same thing.

    Low efficiency problems.

Aha. This may be a key. I'm using bottled spring water as my water. I just saw the pH 5.2 at austin home brew and I think I'll order some. Perhaps that's contributing to my problem.
