    Black Sheep Ale

Any correlation to Okkervil River? Black Sheep Boy is one of their best albums (I guess they're all good)

    Whole Hops vs. Pellets

As an aside, for brewing, I greatly prefer pellet hops, much easier for cleanup at the end of the brew session.

    Red Hook Copper Hook

Dan, the very first recipe I asked for on this forum was for Chinook / Copper Hook from Redhook :) I ended up with this, what I call 2¢ Copper Ale. This was the 2nd beer I ever brewed, and it was pretty good. I've gotten quite a bit better and I think I should re-write it as a partial...

I just finished my first partial mash!

I really, really like Beersmith. Its easy to make recipes and easy to organize and store them, highly recommended.

    Do people like Beck's?

The only way I can stand to drink heineken is to buy the mini keg cans which you can't really expose to UV rays too well through the aluminum.

Belgian Beer to Celebrate the Belgian Grand Prix

So we discovered a new beer/wine store about 20 minutes from our house, and oddly enough I used to work with the owner a number of years ago. Anyway, they have a great selection, huge belgian selection, a whole fridge of lambics, and a really fantastic american selection (even plenty of asian...

    Starting a Craft Brewery

I have frequently had idle dreams of starting up a brewpub. My wife is a total foodie and loves doing local farmers market shopping, as well as we both love watching shows like Ramsey's kitchen nightmares, learning what is good/bad about running the kitchen side of a restaurant. I think the...

    winter brewing

I started brewing in february and I definately prefer the cooler temps of the winter. I condition inside during the colder weather and its much easier to keep a bathroom at a consistent 69-72º as opposed to getting upset when my garage jumps up past 75º and heads up towards 80 for a...

    IPA - Pretty unremarkable

If by watery, you mean thin. Yeah I've had that. the body doesn't develop for a few weeks. don't get discouraged yet. It takes a while for beers to condition, cannot rush this at all. I tend to leave beers in the primary at least 10 days, then at least 14 in the secondary, then bottle for at...

    weirdest krausen I've seen yet.

This is after 2 weeks in the primary, usually krausen has fallen by then, but these thick slabs of krausen were floating in the top of my beer. Just thought I'd snap a pic and show you guys. Beer tasted great and is now in the secondary, started bubbling a little bit after I racked it, probably...

    What are you drinking now?

last night was brought to us by Mirror Pond Pale Ale, probably my favorite beer. :)

    Why do people Quit brewing?

I think the primary reason that I would quit homebrewing would be if I wasn't satisfied with the results. I've been getting better with every batch, and I do like the beers that I make, but I'm still not completely happy with the results, I still think that the commercial beers I like are...

    Dry Hop Pron

I just put 1oz of cascade and 1oz of centennial in my IPA in the secondary. I'm going for serious hop aroma and flavor on this beer.

    White film left on glass

do you mean dried up head? I've had beers with good head retention do that. Particularly Stone IPA.

DFH 60: LHBS didn't have Warrior; went with Columbus

Dude I guess I'm going to have to ship the whole 5 gallons to you for disposal, right? :) I think this is going to be the first beer I prime with DME as opposed to sugar. I want tiny bubbles.

DFH 60: LHBS didn't have Warrior; went with Columbus

I went to brew a PM version of the DFH 60 Minute recipe thats in "Extreme Brewing" by none other than DFH's Sam Calagione. The recipe calls for 1.5oz of hops spread out over 60 minutes. .5oz each of Warrior, Simcoe, and Amarillo Gold. my LHBS doesn't have warrior so I went with columbus...

    Need Help!

if you have a glass carboy, use that as a primary, and bottle out of it (no secondary), becuase glass doesn't scratch it won't harbor any bacteria. This will eliminate your plastic bucket as a source of contamination, as any scratches may keep bacteria alive even in sanitizer or bleach.

    Learned a new trick

I don't use a keggle, but I do full boils in a 7 gallon kettle. The wort chiller works GREAT if I just stir the wort while cooling. I get down to 70 degrees in 7ish minutes.
