Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Well, IMO *NOBODY* should drink ice cold beers! But I get your drift. I enjoy beers a lot more when they're around 55*F, excluding light american lagers of course. I'd stick to Centennial & Galaxy if you have enough of both to do it - Citra can sometimes be a little overly powerful and can...

    First!

Since this forum got bumped and all, I guess it would not be wildly inappropriate of me to paste this here. http://www.lincolnlagers.com/bus-trip-2013/ *shifty eyes*

Specialty IPA: Rye IPA Bee Cave Brewery Rye IPA

Holy smokes, Batman. This beer is GOOOOOD. I had a few glasses of it when it was still quite fresh in the keg - it was overwhelmingly piney and grassy - but we are talking days 2-7 after putting it onto the gas. I let it sit for another two weeks, and some sort of miracle must have happened...

    Belma Hops

All right, "Velma" went into the keg last night. Huuuuuge strawberries and cream aroma when I racked it out of the bucket, the entire basement smelled like it for at least a half hour. Also pretty strong grassy smell but I'm hoping that subsides within the first 2 weeks to smooth out to a...

Arthur Guinness joins the creative packaging crowd

Guinness bottles, at least the ones I've bought for the last very long while, have all been 11.2oz. I assumed it was something to do with mL vs oz. or that the 11.2oz was the more "common" serving size across the pond.

    Glad to be here!

Yooper, this answer you should know better donchaknow? Big Red Nation! Go Big Red! ;)

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Glad I could help. And there is a lot of flexibility in the later hop additions, too, so you can easily bump up, say, the 5 minute addition by multiple ounces without drastically altering the IBU. You will get a clear increase in hop flavor and aroma, but it's much more difficult to measure...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Lastly, here is a visual aid to show you a comparison between #1-4 as I described above, using the handy Hop Graph that BierMuncher and other posters frequently use... I dimmed the background so you can see what you're looking at. You can see how wildly out-of-whack #2 and #3 are - and...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

You can increase the amount of grain in the grain bill - but if you do that, you must also increase your hop addition amounts or else you will have a beer that lacks balance. You should use any kind of brewing software (ProMash, BeerSmith, any Beer Recipe website calculator, etc.) to calculate...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

That's hilarious to me for some reason. BeerSmith tells me that my batch of (per BM's recipe) Cent. Blonde comes out to $12.35 for 5 gallons. $3.15 for the base malt (I bought in bulk sacks at $0.45/lb) - around $1.00 in hops - and $5 for my Notty packet - or if I re-use some yeast out of the...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Crystal 20 is closer to the original than the Crystal 40 you speak of. You are correct that Cara-Pils would have been closer to C*10 than C*20 is. But that's still okay. It should come out more or less the same - slightly darker and a little maltier, perhaps.

    What are you drinking now?

Budweiser Batch #63118 Golden Ale. Soft fruit and streusel and mild European hops are present in the inviting aroma. Pours with a present but restrained head. Has the signature yeast bouquet that you expect from Budweiser lager, but more pronounced, warmer, and malty. You can feel the extra...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Thanks for your notes on that, tre9er, I have a bunch of Columbus to use up and it's good to properly anticipate how 'harsh' of a hop it is, or isn't. Kind of thinking I need to brew 3 or 4 different batches of this recipe, and use a different pair of hops each time, to work on finding the...

Thanks for the warning. I was planning to dryhop with 1.5oz just as you did. I will wait & watch...

    Belma Hops

Brewed yesterday, SMaSH brew called "Velma". 12# Vienna malt 5oz Belma hops total: 0.25oz FWH, 0.25oz 20 Mins, 1.5oz 10 Mins, 1.5oz 2 Mins, and it will get 1.5 Oz more dry-hop in a few days once fermentation is done. Pitched a jar of washed American Ale yeast that came out of my Rye IPA which...

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Pecan Scottish 80/-

The original post should more or less state it clearly but it bears repeating - The pecans in my recipe were used during the mash. However you can certainly use them at multiple points throughout the beer - You could, in theory, mash with pecans, boil with some pecans, AND dry-pecan in...

    Belma Hops

I am actually kind of sad about the change, but for a very silly reason - I liked to re-use the nice mylar bags during divvying up and resealing my hops - and these new nitrogen-flushed bags seem like they're too "slick" for my FoodSaver to find the air in the bag. It fails to vacuum pretty much...

    Belma Hops

I ordered Monday 11/5 and received Saturday 11/10. Broke down all 4 lbs into vac-bags that day. :D
