    Fraternity Closet Brew

I do have some left over Safale US-05 that I would like to use on my next batch. Would I be able to make a good Stout with this yeast? I know its not meant for it but is yeast all the difference?

    First time Cider Experiment

I hydrated the yeast with a little bit of the apple juice warmed up to about 80-100 F ... The airlock bubbles about once every few min and if I push on the bottle the airlock bubbles so CO2 is definitely being produced...

    Fraternity Closet Brew

Yea I made sure to keep everything very sanitized plus it helped that the majority of the house was out when I was doing the boil in the kitchen. I have never considered a porter before...not sure I've even tasted a porter before... What is it like? Sorry if this makes me sound dumb but I am...

    First time Cider Experiment

Here is what I have: 1/2 gal Organic No-Preservative Pasturized Apple Juice from Concentrate Brown Sugar plus Corn Sugar Added Safale US-05 yeast I have it fermenting in the orignal apple juice container that the juice came in. It says on the bottom that it is #1 plastic so I assumed...

    Midwest Supply Pumpkin Ale

Personally I would keep Nutmeg at 1 tsp (unless you really feel it necessary to add more). Cinnamon could probably go to 2 tsp. If the recipe calls for 15-30 oz, I would say around 35-45 oz would give it a strong flavor. 60 oz may be a little overwhelming. What kind of pumpkin additive are you...

What's your favorite online store for beer kits?

Midwest for sure. They have great kits, ingredients, customer service, and I really enjoy there catalog in relation to other catalogs I have read through.

    Fraternity Closet Brew

I like the idea of a Stout. I need to look into should good recipes with a lot of grain for a partial. I'm currently drinking a barley brown ale I did back in August so I will wait on brewing another. (although this one tastes amazing) How difficult/ long will it be to brew a barley...

    Fraternity Closet Brew

Just thought I would share a photo of my small yet effective setup here in my closet. I am going to brew another batch for my primary once I rack whats in the bucket into my carboy. Any suggestions for a good brew for the upcoming cold weather here in Wisconsin? Primary (Bucket): Mystery...

    outwitting an infection

I am fairly new to brewing but this story is definitely one I will remember. I am glad your beer turned out fine. If I ever encounter an infection and catch it early on, I will attempt what you have done here in hopes of saving it. Also, I love how you named this beer after the dog. Great tale...

    Flavor/Aroma Hop additions: 30/15:5/flame

Last 15 minutes for flavor, last 5 minutes for aroma....although adding with only 1 or 2 minutes left has great result for aroma. I would say that with 30 minutes left in the boil, adding would mostly be for bittering and not flavor.

First batch... starting to taste "off"

Interesting.... I brewed this exact same kit (first time brewing) and I feel that I ended up with a real yeasty taste to the beer. Maybe this kit gets super carbonated because mine was carbed a ton when I did a final gravity reading before bottling... Maybe your getting over carbonation tastes

Ballast Point West Coast Pale Ale - 1st Batch

1 week in the bottles will definitely not be enough time and I think most people will agree that 2-3 weeks is a minimum for bottle conditioning. Many people wait months even... I would say 2-3 weeks in primary and then if you go straight to bottling wait 3 weeks. Hope that helps.

    How long to wate

You should be fine. Within a day you should see at activity in the airlock

Ballast Point West Coast Pale Ale - 1st Batch

The foam forming in the carboy is normal I believe (if we are talking about the same thing). However, not seeing any bubbling in the airlock is strange. You did put water in the airlock right? And there really is no formal "count down" for fermentation. I leave my batches in primary for a...

Is this a decent cream ale recipe?

I second this ^^ . Brewer's Best American Cream Ale is great plus I steeped about 1 lb of cracked white wheat into the water before starting the boil. It turned out amazing. The batch includes corn sugar which i believe is common in many cream ales.

    Best way to make labels

I just use a nice printer with regular paper. I found that Elmer's Glue is very easy to come off but you do have to be careful not to use to much when applying cause it will bubble.

POLL: What type of fermenter do you use?

Plastic "Home Depot" Primary and have both a glass carboy and a Better Bottle carboy. Definitely recommend the $4 homedepot bucket for a primary if on a budget
