Dual 120v 2000w recirculating EBIAB Build

Congrats on your first electric brewday! Did you do a mash-out, or straight BIAB?

Dual 2000W 120V Recirculating eBIAB Build

If you are set on using a smaller basket, you can get some stainless bolts, nuts and washers and make "feet" on the bottom of the basket to keep it off the elements. Or you can ditch the basket altogether and just use a bag - many do with success. Another idea is to use a cheap steamer rack...

Dual 2000W 120V Recirculating eBIAB Build

    Thanks guys!

Inagural eBIAB brew day = failure, but why?

That would be my suggestion as well - I'm using Rheem SP10868GL LWD elements in my build. Also, you may want to throttle your pump output a bit when recirculating to make sure you don't empty the space around your element.

    Trouble with PID autotune

What PID are you using? Look in its manual for the temp sensor parameter; by default Auber units ship with it set to thermocouple, not RTD.

    Trouble with PID autotune

Obviously your temp sensor is not reading correctly; autotune algorithm is trying to get the system up to 135; but it cannot get there since at full boil it's only registering 128. I would start with calibrating your temp sensor and making sure your PID is set to Fahrenheit among other things...

Dual 2000W 120V Recirculating eBIAB Build

The grill grate is a perfect fit for a 62 qt pot I'm using, so it should work just as well for any smaller kettle. It's really sturdy and was only $11 at Lowes - it's the round Weber grill grate (22.5"). The only tricky part is holding the basket with one hand while sliding the grate under...

Dual 2000W 120V Recirculating eBIAB Build

So after a couple months of planning and building, last night I finally got to brew a batch of my Jolly Good ESB on my new system. The brewnight went smoothly, I'm very happy with my new rig. I have taken pictures every step of the process, which I will describe in detail. After I got the...

Problems With Dual 120V Input, Dual Element BIAB

Yep, you basically have a short in you e-stop now.

Problems With Dual 120V Input, Dual Element BIAB

I used this exact diagram for my build, and had no issues. Just a thought - are both contact blocks in your e-stop NO? I think Auberins e-stop ships with one NO and one NC - that would certainly cause a problem you are describing.

Making Traditional rice Wine. Cheap, Fun, and Different

sonofgrok, thanks for starting this thread! Here's mine (8 cups of Sweet Rice + 8 yeast balls in a gallon jar) after a week and a half - it was all solid rice when I filled it.

Dual 120v 2000w recirculating EBIAB Build

Ditto. What worked for me was moving the hose below the pump level into a separate container. Once the liquid starts to flow, I put the hose back on and start the pump.

Dual 120v 2000w recirculating EBIAB Build

Nice build! A very uncanny resemblance to mine :) How hot do your heatsinks get? I had to add a fan to mine, otherwise they were getting very hot.

    Single 120v element options?

You're right, it is a 240v - I didn't pay attention to the blade orientation.

    Single 120v element options?

    If I'm not mistaken, that's a 20A 120V receptacle...

Dual 2000W 120V Recirculating eBIAB Build

Had about an hour of free time yesterday and built this "over the side" whirlpool arm: Thanks go to johnodon for the idea.

    My Electric BK

Just wondering why you installed a ball valve when you already had a nice butterfly valve on the BK?

    Illinois 120mm 110v Cooling Fan

I bought this for my eBIAB build, alas, it was too big for my heatsink. 120mm X 120 mm x 25 mm low speed cooling fan. It's very quiet and moves alot of air (50CFM) - would be perfect to cool a larger enclosure, and you won't need to mess with a wall wart. It's built very well, cast aluminum...
