How is PH effected by reverse osmosis?

Yes, there is a mixing valve that mixes softened water with a small amount of the pH corrected water. The water treatment technicians adjusted the mixing so that it results in 2 grains hardness. This is mostly to keep my wife happy. She doesn't like the slimy feeling of showering in softened...

How is PH effected by reverse osmosis?

I've just installed an RO unit and would like to brew a batch of beer right away. I plan to test the RO water at Ward Labs to get get my numbers but don't want to wait several weeks before I brew. Does anyone have any numbers from tests that I could use to plug in numbers to Bru'n Water? I use...

    FastFerment conical fermenter??????

I'm planning on getting a FastFermenter soon. I'm curious how well the yeast will move into the ball after having settled out in the conical area without the ball attached. I'm thinking that you might end up with a lot of yeast stuck to the sides of the fermenter above the ball which will make...

    Basement Electric Brewery Under Construction

Update 5-7-15: Made a little more progress the other day but don't have a picture to post. All electrical is now done. The sheet rock patch in the ceiling has been started. Next up: Finish sanding and priming of the patch area then touch up painting of the upper walls and ceiling. Don't have...

Best RO system for the money?

I'm planning on buying a small RO unit that I can connect with a 14 gallon pressure tank. That should give me just enough water for brewing 10 gallon batches. Any suggestions for reliable brands?

    Basement Electric Brewery Under Construction

Update 5-1-2015: Finally found some time to get some more work done on my brew room. I got the vent hood fully installed. It has a four speed fan that at top speed operates at 760 CFM. That's really more than I should need so I'm hoping to operate it at lower speeds so that it's quieter. Next...

Wort chiller efficiency idea. Crude drawing.

To maximize efficiency, you might want to chill the water used by the immersion chiller. Buy a 30' chiller coil and add it in line prior to the brew kettle. Place this new chiller in a bucket of ice water and it will cool your tap water significantly before it reaches the coil in the brew...

    Galvanized paint stirrer danger?

I would just stop using the galvanized stirrer in the future. It's doubtful that using it once will give you heavy metal poisoning but continued exposure could be a problem, especially if lead and cadmium are in the mixture.

    Basement Electric Brewery Under Construction

Thanks. I'm looking forward to seeing how you approach things. I picked up a used SS double sink that has drain boards on both sides. I should have lots of room for dirty stuff on one side and drying room for sanitized items on the other. I'm going to have 3 SS tables along one wall. The...

    Basement Electric Brewery Under Construction

Update 4-17-15: Had a busy day yesterday working on the brew room. We got most of the FRP (fiberglass reinforced plastic) up on the walls. Still have one full and one partial sheet left to install. I chose to use FRP for the wall coverings due to its easy maintenance. Spray and wipe and the...

    FastFerment conical fermenter??????

You can test it. Put on an airlock, open the valve (without the ball attached) and gently blow air into the fermenter. If the slightest amount of air makes the airlock bubble then you have a good seal. If its not sealing you might try contacting the manufacturer like I did. They responded...

    FastFerment conical fermenter??????

I checked with the folks who make the FastFerment conical and they said that all of their newly manufactured conicals have the new and improved top gasket. They are also now planing the top of the fermenter for an exact fit.

    Basement Electric Brewery Under Construction

Update 4-11-15: Worked a bit more on the wiring. Got two more junction boxes finished and cut a hole though the wall for the vent hood exit. I won't be installing the 36" vent hood until after the wall coverings are on. Next up, installing 4'x8' FRP (fiberglass reinforced plastic) panels...
