problems using a fridge/freezer as fermentation chamber?

I bought a Ranco and the homemade one from RebelBrewer.com they both work great. There are forums on here about how to make them yourself for fairly cheap, and would be a fun project. If I understand your question, you are asking how do you keep the fridge warm enough to keep ales in...

    Quick Banjo Burner question

I may have had the same problem when I first got my Banjos. I'd be willing to bet you tried them without a kettle on top??? Put your pot on top of it and try again, it should work.

    Frustrated, please help

I would also say fermenting temp is the go-to off taste. Have you calibrated your thermometers in boiling water and ice baths?

    Brew Kettle Dilema

The way I see it is you can always brew a smaller batch in a bigger kettle, but not the other way around, so go big. I have a single tier HERMS and if I were planning on going to the next size up I would find a 50 gal stainless steel drum. I've seen them for sale before for like 200-300$, and...

problems using a fridge/freezer as fermentation chamber?

I use 3 full size refridgerators with their own temp controls. 2 side by sides and one with freezer on top and fridge on bottom. With the side by sides you can cut out the middle vertical divider so you can fit full size kegs, build a shelf and have top and bottom racks, but with the top and...

    Whole Hops or Pellet?

I like this conversation and have a couple theories. I feel that pellets dry-hopped would be better because the whole leaf could tend to keep the lupalin in the center of the cones. There is no fluid movement in a carboy (after primary ferm), unless you shake the carboy, unlike a rolling boil...

Hey batch spargers, do you keep collecting runnings as you boil?

I've read that if your 2nd sparge (or 'fly-sparge runnings' or whatever its called) drops below SG 1.010 then you are extracting tanins. just throwin that out there.

You know you're a home brewer when?

When you love driving to work on Tuesday mornings at 6:00am because you stop a few times to take bottles out of peoples recycle bins.
