    Dry hopping in serving keg

Very interesting. Im not familiar with all of those fittings but I understand the concept and it has never occurred to me I was going to go with the standard pco bottle end caps either side of the bong like this...

    Dry hopping in serving keg

I clean non dh'd kegs with a quick blast with a pressure washer, same for the dip, then down the slop sink in my brew room. Takes seconds it's just a bit of yeast I can't empty 5 oz hop mush down the sink - 150yr old house, no macerator in the sink like some have in 'merica Drains are old and...

    Dry hopping in serving keg

Spec says the pump does over 4/ 1gal a minute So I guess if you recirc for 5 min on a timer and then give it some down time all the beer in the keg has been through the hops I theorize much better utilization through the "squeezing"/plunger effect, so maybe a day of 5 min on 5 min off would do...

    Dry hopping in serving keg

I've made hop teas with pellets at 65c ... They go to mush, mush goes into a French press style caffetiere and I put all my weight on the plunger to get max utilization out of them and squeeze everything out The standard mesh on those things keeps almost all the mush in the press - and it's not...

    Dry hopping in serving keg

Thanks, that's really helpful ... If a little deflating ... I was planning to run it constantly for the whole usual 72 hour dry hop ... Guess that was a dumb idea... Is there any pump that would be up to that? Maybe if I run it on a timer 5 min on 5 min off or something ... In any case, to...

    Dry hopping in serving keg

Does anyone know what the actual effective aperture diameter at the poppet around the pin of the QD is? Or does anyone have any experience using that kind of pump to push through multiple qds? An I over thinking it? I don't know much about pumps but it seems to be a beast

    Dry hopping in serving keg

So my plan is to build a hop Randal system using the kegland 2" Hop Bong. Nothing revolutionary there, that's one of it's intended purposes - to be used in-line under gas pressure on a one way trip to a another keg or a glass. What I want to do is use it instead with a pump to pull/push...

    Dry hopping in serving keg

Yeah I'm aware of the method ... I just figure blowing gas through the keg for 3 days can't possibly be doing any favors for the volatile aromatic terpenoids we are in the business of trying to keep in the beer ... Kind of feels like it just defeats the purpose a bit.. You wouldn't leave hops...

    Dry hopping in serving keg

How do you purge a keg that's full of hops? Obviously not a wet purge with sanitizer ...

    Cold crash suck-back volume estimate?

It doesn't, and this is what I do - as I have a kegerator that fits kegs and not a fridge or freezer big enough for my primary fvs. It's fine. It works like a charm. But it's not perfection. It's not optimal. Optimal is drop what you can as fast as you can, as soon as you can in primary -...

    Cold crash suck-back volume estimate?

Love it. Will it work for my 160l brew in a water butt though, so I can free up kegs and effectively treat that primary as a large keg till the steel is ready ... my real purpose and how I alighted on this thread. Not perfect but did for thought

    Cold crash suck-back volume estimate?

Don't want to get get "sucked in" (BOOM 💥 😂) To this age old side discussion and derail the thread ... but As we all know, a keg is just a large beer bottle The headspace is relative to the new brew which is still off gassing in the same way I f I dry hop and it's not a closed transfer I...

    Cold crash suck-back volume estimate?

Both sides of the argument are valid and correct relative to a single simple variable: how fast the product is consumed. I plow through 5 liters a day, so even dry hopped beers are gone down the hatch before O2 is any kind of significant issue .. I've done closed transfers into purged kegs and...

Flavor and aroma loss - I can not figure out why this keeps happening!

Totally The idea is to purge minimum headspace of approx 1 quart to hold the charge IMMEDIATELY. I read a very convincing argument with a lot of math that said 16x would get rid of it all but whatever, do 30x in less than 60 sec. Now we have hops which are as fresh as they possibly can be...

Flavor and aroma loss - I can not figure out why this keeps happening!

Not to derail the thread too much ... but for those who purge with fermgas using basic buckets or carboys as opposed to fancy pressure fermenters, does anyone use an airtight blow off jar as a sort of quarantine area as insurance against over active fermentations? I know from a brulosophy...

Flavor and aroma loss - I can not figure out why this keeps happening!

I'm no expert but I think the accepted wisdom is a full fermentation purge is 100% effective and even food grade tank CO2 has a bit of O2 in it so could be counter productive ... but how the hell you could know for sure I have no idea

Flavor and aroma loss - I can not figure out why this keeps happening!

The benefit I see with using liquid in the idea I posted above (attempting to dry hop in a purged keg) is that it would take significantly less time vs just with ferm gas. The way I see it, the longer hops are sitting there with gas blowing through them the more aroma you are losing. There's a...

Flavor and aroma loss - I can not figure out why this keeps happening!

Interesting ... I suppose the o2 reaches equilibrium with all the co2 above it and sublimes

No aroma from 6 oz dry hop. What gives?!

It's the same with any kind of 'tolerance' ... Same with bitterness. The more beer U drink the less bitter they seem. Your taste buds get 'inured' to it. Changing it up is good. Mixing up different beers to keep your tastebuds guessing. But I feel the same way about hops as I do about...

Flavor and aroma loss - I can not figure out why this keeps happening!

But starsan has dissolved O2 in it and there's always a bit left in the keg ... how many people who use this method aren't bothering to dose their starsan with SMB Better yet use saniclean to eliminate foaming residue l Clearly the best method is a combination of best processes - i.e...
