1.010 from 1.050 in 11 days with First AG...

I managed to go from 1.057 to 1.012 in 6 days with my first all grain recipe. I used Nottingham yeast. Pitched it dry too. Kept it at 66* for 3 days and then dropped it 56* in an ice bath and it kept going! Love Nottingham yeast!

    Good CL Score or Not?

No offense taken. My LHBS sells "refurb'ed" corney kegs for $42. That is what I was basing my price from.

    Good CL Score or Not?

Remember, there appear to be 5 soft drink kegs (hopefully corny kegs) with this. That would have a value of about $200 and the 2 CO2 tanks are probably worth something too. Definitely not $600, someone is trying to rob someone!

    Good CL Score or Not?

I thought the first one was fair, but I guess what do I know. I might try to steal it for $450...:mug:

First brew with my new kit!

Cinci-Brewing - The MR BEER way of doing things was to put the measured sugar or carb tabs in the bottle. As you know, this was a PITA for 20 bottles of beer, little alone 50-60 bottles. I'd recommend while this beer is fermenting away to use this time to acquire a bottling bucket. I don't...

    Stone Levetation Clone

You can download a trial of BeerSmith and enter ANY All Grain recipe into it to be converted to extract. I've never worked with one of the converted recipes, but I imagine it does a pretty good job!

American Lager Pottsville Common (Yeungling Lager Attempt)

Well, I brewed this and my starting gravity was a little high around 1.056 and it tasted sweet and smelled of sweet potatoes!!! Awesome. Now a week later, the Nottingham took that down to 1.012 so that's cool, and the hydro sample tasted GREAT! I'm cold crashing it now down to 58* to let it...

    MLT size

Just remember, the more dead space you have in your tun, the harder it will be to maintain consistant temps during your mash... I had 10 lbs of grain and 3 gallons of water in my 5, yes FIVE, gallon igloo round cooler, and I swear I had at least 8 inches from the top of the water/grain to the 5...

    New Brewer from Lancaster, PA

Whomever stated that Mr. Steve's was an awful store has no reason to state this, and that is VERY misleading. It is obviously his opinion, which he is entitled to, but Mr. Steve's stocks pretty much everything you could ask for, AND is very reasonably priced. Plus, sometimes he'll throw...

Micro Breweries in Tampa, FL area

I'll be heading to Tampa, Fl for a business trip. I was curious if there are any Micro Breweries that are a must to visit when in the Tampa, Fl area? Steve

I'm surprised you can get Troegs up there! They are a micro out of Harrisburg. Troegenator is some potent stuff, as is there Mad Elf come the holiday season...

    I think I found a cooler - which thermometer should I use?

I picked up this one with my recent order to Amazon with some other brew tools: http://www.amazon.com/Taylor-9842-Commercial-Waterproof-Thermometer/dp/B00009WE45/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1270431275&sr=1-3 Better be submersible! Steve

    Ok to brew in this?

Probably not due to the scratches that the coins may have put in the plastic. You don't want to use a scratched plastic fermenter, whether it be a bucket or a better bottle. Plus money is the dirtiest thing in the world...

smelly primary after I cleaned it?

I use a little baking soda with warm water in/on my plastics to rid them of almost all odors...

    Strange Question To Ask Group....

I don't think it would be illegal to make someone buy the grains, yeast, etc. (ingredients) would it? I think the problem would be selling the alcohol. I see nothing wrong with you buying the grains for XX money and then making a profit selling the grains for XX * 25% (or whatever percent) as...

    craigslist score

Every time I search CARBOY, I get car stuff. When I search homebrew I get Nintendo WII stuff. I usually search for beer, homebrew, wine, fermenter, carboy, jug, etc.

    boil dipstick

I use an aluminum dowel rod I got at Lowe's and I marked it in .5 gallon increments with a hack saw. I put a "nick" in the rod at the .5 gallon marks and then went around the entire dowel rod for the gallon marks. I actually used a 2 quart pitcher to get my measurements. I added 2 quarts of...
