    First BIAB Attempt

45 minutes is pretty reasonable to reach strike temperature on a stove top. I think thats about where i was on my electric stove in my apartment, seems like it was faster but never paid too close attention there. I had a big enough pot to use 2 burners at once. My new place with gas took...

    First BIAB Attempt

Yes you should be pumping cold water through the chiller, assuming you have a standard immersion chiller.

    Pale Ale Hopping

Just got back from the LHBS with ingredients for Jamil's Pale Ale from Brewing Classic Styles. I did have to replace the horizon hops with magnum, as suggested by the shop owner. He seemed to like these hops. I have yet to purchase a scale for measuring hops. My question is should i try to...

How exactly do Bud/Miller/Coors brew such consistent beers??

There is a documentary that I just watched this week on Netflix about them that roughly answer these questions. Also if you listen to the American light episode from the Jamil show. They have smaller companies that test all new ingredients one at a time. if you are interested in the answer...

Using pump to vorlauf.. couple questions

If you don't like moving hoses around all the time you could use some valves and have a permanent hose. How do you currently get your wort to the boil kettle? EDIT: nevermind, if I would have looked at the picture I would have seen that its gravity fed.

You are the pro, tell me what to buy!

Now this may be a little off topic, and deserve a new thread. Maybe someone has a quick answer to this side question. How do you cool down your hodrometer samples to measure preboil gravity. I generally get it down to say 110F quickly and take a reading and use a chart to compensate, but...

You are the pro, tell me what to buy!

I disagree with the refractometer statement. More $$ and doesn't accurately measure fg. Refractometers only measure the bending of light. Which from what I have read is good when you only have a few main components in your solution, such as sugar and water. But not very good when you add...

    Super Simple 15G Plastic Conical

Thanks sebring96hbg. I will be moving soon. So not in the near future. Eventually I will. I was just curious if it was common to remove it. Especially after seeing the results of the latest byo/bbr collaborative experiment. I could see some styles/recipies benefiting from removing it, while...

    Super Simple 15G Plastic Conical

Looks good. Is it beneficial to drop out the break/trub material before the yeast dropout to save yourself some effort washing yeast?
