18-D Belgian Golden Strong Ale - Question

He discusses this on the jamil show on the brewing network. The book is a little vague without the shows.

Made a lightbox - first time using it

I was just going to mention your high ISO. You can really see the grainyness in the first few, but that last one looks much better. Great pics!!

    brew of firsts (cabinet IPA)

Bottled an IPA last night. Brew of firsts. Not only was this one is my first original recipe, it was my first reuse of yeast, and the hoppiest to date. The goal of this recipe was purely to clean out the cabinet. All of the leftover hops from the last years batches along with most if the...

    $25 dollar bottle storage unit

Still have yet to move to a kegging setup and have quite a few bottles cluttering up the house. Decided to build this storage unit tonight. Holds 6 cases (144 bottles) inside and 2 cases on top if necessary. The wife helped with this project and came up with the curtain idea to keep light...

My beer is about to blow! What do i do?

I'm pretty sure I've heard a rant about airlocks on the brewing network (BN) and how its by far the most overused brewing tool out there. I use a 3/8" siphon tubing, i think. I do know it is one size over the standard siphon tubing size. I place it directly in where the airlock goes without...

    BIAB batch sparge

I have tried other bags, but the y generally do not fit my large diameter pot and are a pain to deal with. If you aren't careful you end up with grain in the pot. Ill look at those bags, might end up building a mash tun or making my own thinner mesh bag.

    BIAB batch sparge

    BIAB batch sparge

So i have been doing BIAB (brew in a bag) for awhile now. Usually the only sparging I do is 170F fresh water. Quute often ill end up with some amount of husk material in my wort. Today I brewed a n American Amber ale. I decided on the fly to try a sparge, with something i just thought of...

    Used 2lbs instead of 2oz

Hell id bottle or keg it straight up, and keep it around for mixing for months/years to come. It would probably take many to mix into directly.

Foods that freak out SWMBO (or HWMBO)

Smoked oysters... heck anything from a can that resembles a tuna can, but the oysters are especially aromatic.

    Beer for chili base

I really enjoy a bold chili, with lots of beans, meat (including bacon), corn, and peppers. Some may think that its too much (you throw in the kitchen sink and you get the kitchen sink), but I like it. This year i want to can up some chili to make an easy lunch. I want to make as much as I...

    Home brewing in Mississippi

Does anyone listen to basic brewing radio? He talks about this on many episodes. His last episode on new hops, talks about legalization movement updates in the intro. Also he has spoken about their competitions.

    Smoked stout opinions please

Ive never used any smoke malt but that seems like a high percentage of your grain bill. The recipes in brewing classic styles use less than 50%.

    New from Illinois

Welcome, i just moved to the central part of the state. I found the hop shoppe in Bloomington to be pretty good. Anyone else have any favorite lhbs? I was suggested friar tuck in Peoria, but it seems more like a craft brew store.
