    Ideas for brewing workshop

No local Home Brew supply shops there? Her the local shop does demo brews fairly often and is very free with advice and help. If the town is to small to support a supply shop your customer base is going to be pretty small.

    Capping Issue

Mine takes up a bit of room with the plywood base but the base makes bottling go very fast, I can crank with one hand and get the next bottle ready with the other. Aside from the nostalgia of using the same tools my Father did it is just very satisfying for me to bottle beer. My son kegs and...

    going smaller

Hi. I am going small for many of the same reasons, not that I have a lot of experience with larger batches. I found 2 gallon food grade buckets and lids at a store that sells bulk foods, so I brew ~1.75 gallon batches. I bottle in bombers so that yields about 8 or 9 bottles plus a few 12oz...

    Capping Issue

A capper will last a life time, or more. My Mom and Dad were capping beer with this capper in the 50's and I'm still using it today.

    Melt Solid State Relay

    Good points

    Melt Solid State Relay

@doug293cz I was more thinking that there was no fuse which allowed an over current situation. Adding a fuse would be a preventive/safety measure. These are the reasons I can think of for the melt down in descending order: 1- No heat sink, insufficient heat sink 2- Under rated SSR 3- Defective SSR

    Melt Solid State Relay

. Follow the link in my post. You need at least one fuse, preferably on the hot side, usually black in America. If the unit starts drawing to many amps the fuse blows and the unit shuts down.

    Melt Solid State Relay

How is the SSR heat sinked? Assuming you have a properly rated heat sink the only way to increase the out put is to add another SSR, or find an SSR with a higher current rating. With two elements both elements will never be exactly the same temp, the internal resistance will not be exactly...

    The official foraging thread

Most of the ones that come in the neighborhood are pretty tame, the herds in the hill are fiesty. They call them wild horses but the truth is most are the descendants of horses that got missed on roundups or pets that got to expensive to feed. They are feral by the common definition.

    Travel Trailers

Good suggestion to hit garage sales for housewares. We never realized how much stuff we had in our trailer until we sold it to get another, it was like moving out of an apartment. One thing we do is keep EVERYTHING in the trailer, including clothes. The only thing we ever have to pack is food...

    Travel Trailers

Long time RV'r currently without a hard side trailer, we have a small popup tent trailer but have had serveral 20+ foot hard sides. Advice: -Don't buy new, the depreciation is absurd and there are a ton of lightly used trailers available. Lots of people buy trailers and lose interest after a...

What did I cook this weekend.....

NY steak cooked in a cast iron skillet heated to 450° on the grill. Pre-Seasoned with coarse kosher sea salt and fresh cracked black pepper. Copious amounts of mushrooms sauted in butter and a baked tater on the side. Pinot Noir for my bride and Lagunitas Imperial Stout for myself. Sorry no...

    Process for Automation

I am not familiar with the PLC you are using but the one I have used lets you program a PID loop between the temp sensor and heaters. Hope this helps. What software are you using to write your program? I have been having a hard time getting my head around ladder logic. My programing background...
