    Herms Question

ahhh, nice. thats good. still don't know how to purge the coil though. only thing i can think of is after the bk has drained, boil a small volume of water like 2 gal and pump it through until it runs clear.

    Herms Question

Wort from mash will be recirculated through copper coil bathing in the HLT. When sparging commences I will reconfigure the hoses so the sparge water is pumped through the coil, thus purging it of sweet wort. No problems. After the boil, the copper coil moves to MLT and is filled with ice. The...

Why Do You Need an Oxygen Regulator?

I want to make my own in-line oxygenation unit. Why the need for the o2 regulator? Can't you just turn the tank on and let it rock or would it just blow &$%$ apart? What is the recommended flow rate? Thx.

When brewing 15 gal you would want 20 gal conicals or is 15 gal enough headspace for primary? Also, do ppl maybe ferment in a 20, then pump to a 15 to clarify? Any help would be great. Sorry if these questions are dumb...

    Gas plumbing

I am about to do a set up with two banjos, myself. What did you end up using from the BIP to the burners?

    Weldless brew stand.

Why is it necessary to have the valve there on the corner of the stand that kills the gas to all three burners? Couldn't you just kill it at the regulator if you needed to shut off all three? Also, if you light the first burner first, does it create problems lighting two and three? Is it...

    Wait... Vinyl Tubing is Bad?

I just came across a thread on here where two ppl mentiones, as an aside, that moving beer through vinyl tubing more than a foot or two will impart off flavors?!?! I have not experienced this, to my knowledge. Any input on this? Why does every homebrew suppplier sell vinyl tubing, then?

High/Low Pressure regulators off of same tank

May be a stupid question, but.... the Banjo burner uses a high pressure regulator and this one (http://morebeer.com/view_product/17250//Burner_-_92000_BTU_for_Low_Pressure_Propane) on MoreBeer! uses a low pressure regulator. Can they be spliced off the same tank? I'm thinking they can- and yes...

    Re: March pumps/Strength

holy crap. I'm surprised. What was the diameter of the 25'? Maybe I'll recirculate back to the boil kettle then move the line over to whirlpool kettle once the temp has dropped...

    Re: March pumps/Strength

thanks for your help. do you thinik 25' feet of tubing submerged in ice water would be sufficient to bring it down to within 65 degrees?

    Re: March pumps/Strength

by driving do you mean pushing the wort through the coil? Also, I had thought to have the second pump on the receving end of the coil also when pumping from the ice bath to a sanitized kettle. my thought was that it would draw the wort out faster to create a more aggresive whirlpool action. Is...

    Re: March pumps/Strength

wouldnt it work fine though if the pump is before the tube? then the pump would just be pumping all the air out... or no?

Why a ball valve in the HLT on single tier systems?

Yeah I got my pump confused, thanks.

Why a ball valve in the HLT on single tier systems?

Just curious why everyone pays for a ball valve and holes to be drilled when couldn't you just have the pump suck the hot water out of a dip tube through a hole in the lid then distribute it over the mash for sparging? Magnetic pumps don't have to be gravity fed, right?
