    aeration technique?

I go fishing for divers. When I have caught one, I first let her/him swim around a bit in sanitizing solution before I transfer to primary (this works best with a bucket, as a carboy's neck may be too narrow for legally caught divers) and unplug her/his oxygen tank with a sanitized boathook...

06.06.06 We should start planning now....

Being a poor little extract guy myself, I'm in the same situation as Walker, contribution-wise. But I'll throw in a couple of name suggestions, just for the 060606 of it. :D Imp Ale (Shamelessly stolen from the Kingdom of Loathing) Old Splitfoot Special Cocytus Concoction Malebolge Mellow...

    Hops in my cider

I don't think it's necessary to boil the whole batch. Just take out a little and boil/steep/deep fry your hops in that, then let it cool down and put it back with the rest of the cider. I like the idea of hopped cider. Keep us posted on the progress! :)

    Coopers' Pilsner kit

There might be a market for alarm clocks like that. :D Thanks for the input, everybody. The wort's in the cellar as I write, bubbling happily (but slowly) away at 9°C (that's about 48°F for you non-metric people.) It had an OG of 1.043.

Finally bottled my ... apple wine

I certainly have the patience. I only have to find the storage space for it. (I'm sure I had some. Where could I have put it?) I will get another cider on with ale yeast as soon as I restock my supplies of liquid apples. That might not be until autumn. Meanwhile, I'm going to try my hand at a...

    Coopers' Pilsner kit

Hi, all. What day is it today? It's brewing day! :D I'm going to attempt a lager from a kit. The kit is a Pilsner from Coopers' Brewmaster Selection, and here they claim that the yeast supplied is good for lager-style fermenting. I thought I'd try it out, as the cellar in my house has a...

Finally bottled my ... apple wine

Yeasts are strange beasts. You may or may not remember me asking for advice in this thread. I was doing a cider ferment with ale yeast and had switched to wine yeast because the fermentation was stuck. I got some good advice. This was early november last year. It's been sitting in the vat...

    My first AG batch

So... £30 for fitting a spigot and slapping a note on? Nice work if you can get it...

    Green olive mead??

Happy Mug, you had me really scared there for a moment! I saw the title and thought it was a request for a recipe... I can't really contribute to this topic, so I'll shut up just after I say that I hope the mead will be all right.

holy cow, am I having a rough night....

Well, if you travel far enough east of the Mississippi, I'm sure you'll get to Oslo, Norway eventually. That's where I live. Obtaining a bottle of Fat Tire might be slightly too much of a hassle... :) Thanks for the info, though.

holy cow, am I having a rough night....

Pity it's not a bock. Then you could name it "Pandora's Bocks". (Hmm. It could be a bock for all I know. What sort of animal is Fat Tire anyway?) Nice label, though. :)

    Label adhesives

I would like to take this opportunity to advocate the many wonders of string. I never use adhesives at all, just string. And, admittedly, a hole punch. It's easy. There's no mess. (Unless you punch a hole through your hand. To be avoided.) You might want to use paper that's thicker than...

Switch from beer to wine yeast -- fermentation halted

Thanks! (I can't believe I didn't think of that...) I'll try it and let you know how it turns out. I may be able to ruin this batch yet... :-)

Switch from beer to wine yeast -- fermentation halted

Ah. I wasn't intentionally badmouthing sweet wines. I like a good glass of port or madeira as much as the next man. (Or maybe more.) Still, I balk at comparing what's (still not) fermenting at home with such delicacies... :-) ScottT, if by proofing the yeast you mean hydrating and nourishing...

Switch from beer to wine yeast -- fermentation halted

Hello, all. I'm hoping someone here might answer a question of mine. I'm going to type a lot first, though. Here goes: I've got a batch of cider in a vat. It's my first one. It's made from pasteurized apple juice, no additives. I gave it some sugar to get the OG up to my desired value, and...
