    Oyster Stout

Never tried old bay myself, and never heard of a stout, but Flying Dog here in MD does an Old Bay Ale: http://flyingdogbrewery.com/?beers=dead-rise

Happy Snow Time in the Mid-Atlantic

Not far from you - I work in Laurel, but live in Eldersburg/Sykesville. Had 3+ inches, but no issues for me. Got up, did a nice run as the snow was starting (formerly from AZ, running in the snow is a novel concept). Plenty of sledding with the kids in our neighboorhood. Wife thought I was...

Driving across the country with my dad. Brewery input wanted for our route.

BK Tacos...NICE! That's where I learned to love cabeza.

Driving across the country with my dad. Brewery input wanted for our route.

If Dragoon doesn't have a food truck, just down the street, NW corner of Grant and Silverbell (on the hill behind the McD's) is Mosaic Cafe - GREAT mexican food. Mole chicken is killer.

Gather 'round the Campfire: Outdoor related thread

Getting back into it with the kiddos here in MD, coming from lots of camping in AZ as a Scout. Just established campgrounds to start, would love to get into a bit more backpacking.

What happened to The Great HBT Stogie Thread

True on Barrio vs Dragoon, but in fairness, of the "big 3", I think Barrio/Gentle Ben's were always solid, used to prefer nimbus, but they seemed to be slipping. Both much better than Thunder Canyon. Dragoon...I was there opening day, loved their session ale. Last beer in Tucson before I...

Driving across the country with my dad. Brewery input wanted for our route.

(responded in the Stogie thread, and saw someone already mentioned Beale St. here...) On Tucson - Tap and Bottle is outstanding, but my favorite brewery when I moved from Tucson to MD (Jan 2015) is Dragoon Brewery, about 1 mile W of I-10 on Grant Rd. In Memphis - Flying Saucer Draught...

What happened to The Great HBT Stogie Thread

On Tucson - Tap and Bottle is outstanding, but my favorite brewery when I moved from Tucson to MD (Jan 2015) is Dragoon Brewery, about 1 mile W of I-10 on Grant Rd. In Memphis - Flying Saucer Draught Emporium. On the drive to MD, I stopped a night in Memphis, a HS friend took me around Beale...

Use for Second Runnings and Spent Grain?

Wifey does spent grain bread - I love it with a stout/porter grain bill - be warned, maybe it's the sugary grains (I'm a no-sparge brewer), but can make mutant loaves - really rise well. One exception - didn't turn out as good with rice hulls in the grain. 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 cup water 3T oil or...

    Breweries in Williamsburg VA?

X2 for Alewerks - their Old Stitch Brown Ale is outstanding!

Maryland Attaboy Beer in Frederick, MD

Not yet, it's on the list - I'm only 30 min away. Lots of good reviews.

Going to the Masters in April, need ideas for our trip to the South!

Charleston SC is well worth a couple days to see the sights there - neatest town I've been to E of the Mississippi.

    Maple/Bacon Stout

A friend made a breakfast stout, and IIRC, steeped the bacon in a bit of vodka and added the now infused vodka to the beer. Hint of flavor, and I think there was minimal if any foam.

    Frederick, MD Breweries

Only been in the area for 2 1/2 years, Frederick isn't too far us in Eldersburg/Sykesville LOVE Barley & Hops and Brewer's Alley - always a toss-up which of the two to go to. Still need to check out Old Mother. Love the farmhouse breweries in the area - Milkhouse and Red Shedman, both great...

    Tobacco bitters??

Can't speak to the bitters, but love this cocktail. I'll make it sometimes "the usual way", which I htink is more like how most restaurants would make it. Bit of OJ (I don't usually have an orange to muddle, but usually have OJ), some simple syrup, some marachino cherry juice and a cherry...

    Southern Maryland

Yeah, they seem to be doing well - don't know what it was like in '94 (only been living here since Jan 2015), but room for cheese making supplies, room for wine stuff, and the big warehouse room in the back for beer. Grain bin room has two or three mills.

    Ireland and Germany

With Mannheim and Heidelburg, you're hitting some of the spots I went to - watch for Bananenweizen - a mix of roughly 2/3 hefeweizen, 1/3 banana juice. If you like the banana-ey hefes, this'll be amazing - haven't been able to do a good replication stateside. The wines in the region are great...

    Need a new propane grill

I'm sold on the ceramic grills too - my in-laws from PA bought me a BGE as a housewarming present for moving us from AZ to MD, they have a BGE of their own. Never had a good way to suggest the Kamado instead. Regardless, love cooking with it, whether direct heat for steaks, or low and slow for...
