Post your "whoops" moments- messes, etc

i was so excited for my first all grain batch ever. after capping the last bottle, i started cleaning up only to realize that i never added in my corn sugar solution! i tried to add some and re-cap it again, but it never worked. nevertheless, i had to enjoy some flat beer! also, i have had...

converting ball lock to pin lock

Thanks for the info. I guess one option would be to convert my other kegs to ball lock. It's weird to me that they are not so easily interchangeable.

converting ball lock to pin lock

ill have to do some research to see if it will work, i tried to switch the posts with my current pin lock and the new ball lock ones, the ball lock post seemed to screw down onto the pin lock keg, but i dont have the fittings to air test it to see if it works, and the pin lock post would not go...

converting ball lock to pin lock

today i went to buy a couple pin lock kegs on craigslist but when i got there, the seller was mistaken and they were actually ball lock kegs. i ended up buying them anyway for dirt cheap thinking i would convert them or something.... i see lots of info on converting pin lock to ball lock, but...

    Natural gas burners

i ended up changing them out to a different style burner, ring burner style. i think you probably just have the burner mounted too close to the bottom of the kettle, or you arent getting enough oxygen to the flame, the flame should be real nice and blue, not yellow. btw, some bar keepers friend...

    Aeration prior to Primary

i use an oxygen wand system now, but before i did that, i used to just put a solid stopper over my carboy and rock it back and forth, shaking it up for 5? 10 min?.... basically until i got tired of it, and that always worked pretty well for me.

To trim or not to trim

hahaha! it was a joke, ive never heard the term bull shoot before.... im guessing its the first sprouts that come up that usually get trimmed back? or maybe the ones with the horns.

To trim or not to trim

it all looks like bullshoot to me

To trim or not to trim

Ha well, I actually did end up cutting them after I said I wouldn't, and I am already getting more popping up again..... Definitely going to let them go now!

To trim or not to trim

Well, they were dormant for a few months, three or four months maybe? I think I will just let them grow... I'll keep you posted. The one I posted is by far the most active. Ive got three cascade, one chinook, one magnum and one Columbus plant. They were all first year plants last year.

To trim or not to trim

This is a second year cascade plant. I already cut it back once, but with all this warm so cal weather, my plants keep sprouting up again. Should I cut it down once more or let it go? When does "spring" actually start around here? It's sunny and warm 364 days a year here!

    Natural gas burners

thanks for the replies. fortunately, i found a different set of burners that will provide a better heat source, and will be more controllable. i'll update after installing them.

    Natural gas burners

thanks for the info, guys. before i had this really nice little propane floor burner that worked great..... makes me think all this work is not worth it lol. i just wish i could get one of those regular old round propane burners and just run it on natural gas. not the banjo one, not a jet...

    Natural gas burners

I guess I bought the 23 tip burners knowing that they were too powerful and planning on plugging off some of the tips. The ten tip burners that I have seen are either much more expensive or way too hard to find in my experience... Btw it makes me wonder what these were made for, they call them...

    Natural gas burners

How far down should it be if I reduce it to ten tips?

    Natural gas burners

Just finished building most of my brew stand this weekend. Tried boiling a pot of water to test it all out and I have obviously placed my 23 jet NG burner way too high.... Flames were licking the side of my brand new kettle and blackening it. If anyone else has these burners, how low did you...

    ghetto brew setups?...

this is an upgrade from using buckets and ladders, but i wanted to share my garden sprayer sparge arm adapted to a 3/8 ss faucet connecter. works pretty good, i just move it around while it is running.
