    hops identification

    Hi I am heading out west to BC in a couple weeks, I plan on picking up some hops and Rhizomes (spelling) from crannog farms while im there.     Liquorice

    why can't we use twist off bottles?

    here in Canada it is very hard to find affordable beer with non twist tops, mostly imports are pop tops, I wish I had saved all those smithwicks bottles I drank in the past.

    Re-using sanitizing solution

    Its a different sanitizer but I use one batch of Diversol sanitizer from start to finish for each batch, I keep it stored in a couple 10 litre water jugs with a lid. I do however had a scoop full of diversol each time I use it to make up for it loosing its strength.

    The Plastic Primary

    my bucket is full of scratches and it still hasnt screwed a batch I plan on getting a new bucket and glass secondary (im running a plastic carboy for secondary now) I will still use the plastic but I want the glass for longer aged brews and wine.

    orange peel

    I added 1 oz of orange peel zest in my last batch of honey wheat, very strong smell at first but after 4 days I checked the Gravity (because all activity had stopped and I was a bit worried but everything is ok) anyhow I tasted and only a slight orange taste, well have to see how she turns out...

    Me bleedin' 'ops won't sink!

    shambolic I recently had the exact same problem, what i did and it worked was when i racked into bottleing bucket i stuck the end of the hose in my grain steeping bag , worked good, all the hop bits ended up in the bag instead of the bottles.

    bottle washer question

    thanks for the input boyz, ya I talked to my bro in law and basicaly thats what he suggested, either remove the tube and plug while brewing or put a shutoff valve, I think ill go with AHammers suggestion

    ive never made starters using dry yeast but I always re-hydrate the yeast. my last batch started bubbling after 6 hours

    My igloo mash tun

    I am happy with extract/grain right now but I know down the road I will be doing all grain, its cool to see others techniques and the more I learn the less difficult all grain brewing seems to be.

    looks good, ya i tried my new chiller today for the first time, cut down chill time from 30-40 mins to about 10 mins.
