Gas leak is killing me..... final solution?

Going through the same exercise myself. It isn't my regulator, either the primary or the secondaries since I can hold pressure up to the outlet valves of the secondaries. It looks like it is the distribution bar. I don't trust those red handled S/O valves. Time for me to dunk it and find...

Budapest, Vienna, Salzburg, Graz oh my!!!

Well this trip never happened... We got hit by Harvey and were forced to cancel. We only got about 4 inches of flooding but that was enough to have to rip all the sheetrock up a couple of feet, trash all kitchen cabinets, remove all insulation from the lower walls, replace all doors and...

    I've created Stout flubber......

Weird stuff. This is my Southern Star Buried Hatchet Stout clone. It is a fantastic beer, 9.2% and with great body. My keg is about 6 inches or so from being kicked when all of a sudden my tap won't pour (30 lbs on nitro). After some diagnosis and disassembly I find that I have a...

If you could do it over again, Would you change your career?

I had parents that taught me to pursue a degree/career in something that I could feed myself with. Stark contrast to the 'follow your dreams' parenting too common now. I got a BS in a core science (molecular biology) and went to graduate school to study immunology on a full ride for my PhD. I...

What do you do with all your brew?

I brew 10 gallons at a time. I keep 5, one of my brewing buddies takes the other 5 and we split the bill. Next brew day, another buddy does the same. Since I'm keeping more, I'm the one providing brew during brew day and with brew club, so my volumes go down....... 6 taps.

Brew Out Front or Out Back?

Houston here...just as hot and tons more humid! I have a rolling rig that we move just outside the garage so that it can be hosed down and so that the boil off doesn't go into the garage. I set up a cheap Harbor Freight canopy to sit under or to protect the rig if rain is imminent. I'm full...

    What's in your fermenter(s)?

Southern Star made a bourbon barrel aged version of their Buried Hatchet stout called Black Crack. Not to be outdone, our clone is called Plumber's Crack. It's in the fermenter now.

    What are you drinking now?

A double, straight up ice cold vodka with 2 olives. Been working on the Saab all day in 97* Houston heat with 150% humidity!! Variety is the spice of life.

How can I carb a keg in 3 days?

I use a cheap chinese pump, a SS T fitting, two quick connects and a diffuser stone attached to my C02 bottle. Lay the keg down so that it primes the pump, turn on the gas and plug in the pump. 1 hour later it will be to whatever pressure you set the regulator to. Easy peasy.

Sweet Stout Left Hand Milk Stout Clone

A perennial favorite at the House of Malbec Brewing. Experiment with the lactose quantity and dial it in to your palate.

    Your brewing method

Sounds like an excellent idea if you use liquid yeast and have good sanitation practices...... Does anyone do this with 10 gallons? Pitch one packet of dry and let it ride for a day and then pitch? Avoid buying a second pack?

    Gin Beer

Ever heard of a Finnish Sahti beer? Juniper berries, Belgian funk......First few sips are really good but then the Juniper's anesthetic powers kick in and things change..... as it warms it tastes a bit like motor oil...... I had one at Historic brewing's tap room in Williams, AZ. Great for a...

    The Air Ain't Free

I have a question for the group. Rather than a single hit of pure oxygen at pitching time and getting the concentration high enough to get the yeast though their growth phase, why not simply bubble air through the diffuser at a lower oxygen content but just maintain it for the important first 24...

    What brewery are you visiting?

I was really impressed with these guys. We were at their tap room, not the brewery itself. Everything we tried was great. We blogged about them on our site: https://www.twobrewdogs.com/single-post/2017/07/01/Tractor-Brewing---Albuquerque-NM

    Brew dogs heading to D.C.

On the final week of the above mentioned journey. We ditched Las Vegas when we saw 117+ degree temps forecasted. Instead, we went up into Utah and visited Zion, Bryce, Capitol Reef, Arches and Canyonlands National parks. Awesome. Go. Now in Roswell (snore) and in Carlsbad caverns tomorrow...
