    Jamil's Evil Twin?

You're going to be more than happy with how it turns out. Centennial and Amarillo were made for each other. I recently used a similar hop schedule in a rye ipa: DDH Rye 1.00 oz Columbus (60 min) 0.75 oz Centennial (15 min) 0.75 oz Amarillo Gold (15 min) 0.50 oz Centennial (10 min) 0.50...

    tiny snifters?

Those small Libbey snifters that I posted a link for are of fairly high quality. Here is a picture of them next to a standard pint glass. Here's a new link for the 12/case shipped for $26...

    BeerAdvocate Ignorance Vent. LOL

Taste is subjective and everybody's palate is different so who cares what Joe Blow tastes or smells in a beer. If you like the beer that is all that matters. Do you really need validation that someone else perceives stone fruit, horse blanket, hay, barnyard funk, sweaty gym socks, baby diaper...

The reviews/ratings are the least useful part of that site.

Group grain buy Pittsburgh / Western PA

Is this round getting any closer to actually happening? Hopefully this can get squared away sooner rather than later.

    DDH Rye IPA

If you're a hophead the taste is fantastic. Huge nose, solid bitterness, and a citrusy/floral assault on the tastebuds. It has only been in the keg for about a week so the rye is currently in the backseat with the late addition and keg hops driving but you can certainly tell there is rye in it...

Chicago - Best brewpubs to see

"Interesting" is a nice way of putting it. The place is a dump but you are correct about the beers. For pola0502ds: +1 for Revolution. Really a great place. Also, Flossmoor Station is really good but it's about a 45 minute drive south from the Siebel Institute. For good deep dish The Art of...

Group grain buy Pittsburgh / Western PA

I've seen a couple of references regarding the return of these two. Where did they go? I'm guessing the entire process was a gigantic PITA which is why there hasn't been another one.

    star san question

You'll find that items that have been soaking in star san for a few days tend to be extremely slimy to the touch. While this might be fine(I really don't know) I've always washed and re-sanitized those items. There is just something about that overly slimy feeling that just doesn't seem right to...

    Planning for a bar.

It is unlikely that you will find what you need "off the shelf". You would be better served going to Lowes, Home Depot, or local cabinet maker and having something custom made for you. The up-tick for having something custom made may very well be offset since you won't be needing doors or hinge...

Best IPA in Canton and Pittsburgh?

The Hop Stoopid was fresh but the Sculpin was likely a year old sitting warm on a shelf no less.

Best IPA in Canton and Pittsburgh?

Since you will be this far north already you should try to make it to North Country Brewing in Slippery Rock. It's better than all the previously mentioned places in Pittsburgh anyways. If not the Mad Mex in Cranberry has the best tap list in the area. As far as bottle shops in Cranberry/Butler...

Seriously? Give me a break with the hops already.

The Imperial Stout categories are the worst ratings examples for the entire site. There's like 1000 beers rated and 97% of them are B- or higher? It's a joke. The trading has gotten out of hand in the past 12 - 18 months. I like to call it The Bruery Effect.

Seriously? Give me a break with the hops already.

I'm fully aware of how the ratings are compiled. Generally you do not see a whole lot of score variation across the five categories for any given beer review. The recent changes in weighting for each category along with changing drinkability to overall has helped slightly bring scores closer to...

Seriously? Give me a break with the hops already.

I have yet to find a beer that is too hoppy. The thing that turns me off are beers that are supposed to be hoppy that turn out to be a sweet malty mess. Beer Advocate is not a good barometer on whether a beer is good or not. The rating system is very flawed and most reviewers seem to think...

Group grain buy Pittsburgh / Western PA

I just ordered a sack from the LHBS but I would be in for a group buy. Bugman9317 - Do you have an account with Country Malt? You stated you've been buying from the LHBS(Three B's?) currently and you can't do a large buy without an already established account with one of the bigger malt...

    Northeast Ohio Bulk Grain Order

Is anybody in or closer to western PA thinking about joining in? I'd like to participate but any savings gained would just be lost with having to drive from the Pittsburgh area to Akron for pickup.
