opinions wanted: me thinks i have garbage

drank some of it last night and i've been coughing up blood ever since .... just kidding. it actually tasted pretty damn good surprisingly. i need to re-force carb it, seemed a bit on the flat side, but i can do that when i get home from work and drink my self silly tonight.

    hops picking: noob needs advice

i just learned of a guy at work who has hops growing at his farm house, apparently he bought the house in the last few years and the previous owner had hops planted and they continue to grow. this year the owner can't pick them and thus he offered them to anyone willing to pick them. i...

this puts a damper on my brew day

you're suposed to brew on saturday and go to the game on sunday, that's what i did. on topic: why not purchase your supplies from niagara traditions, they're local and great to shop with. granted they're not open on sunday's and that wouldn't have helped you in a pinch before the game, but...

opinions wanted: me thinks i have garbage

thanks for the advice. in response to posts: i tasted it and it was not super sour if at all. i said i had no problem with the time to keg it even if it was bad, but wouldn't waste the time to bottle (read into this, i hate bottling) i actually transferred it to the keg last...

opinions wanted: me thinks i have garbage

i brewed an irish ale last october, yes october 2007. racked it to secondary and shortly after that went through a separation. needless to say i fell off the homebrewing wagon and haven't touched anything since. to the point, the ale has been in secondary, in the basement in a secured...

    Fridge Floor for Sanke Keg

in response to my post above, i was apparently out of my mind in thinking of doing a nice floor, the materials i was thinking of using would cost be in excess of $60, if i make it out of wood aka 2x4's, less than $10. frugal FTW!

    Fridge Floor for Sanke Keg

i'm in the process of doing the same thing, though for a 3 tap corny keg set up, not sanke. i'm not sure exactly how i'm going to execute the creation of the shelf, but screwing into the fridge interior is not recommended. the reason for the hump in the bottom is that is the location of the...

link to the diy kegerator thread

thanks for the reply, i did a search last night before posting and found a few of those threads myself. the thread i'm really looking for was a multi-option/project thread. it had everything from the classic using an old ice box fridge to retro to modern to pretty much everything. it was an...

link to the diy kegerator thread

due to unfortunate circumstances (don't ask) i haven't been on here since thanksgiving. back then i remember there being this thread of all threads on making a kegerator out of virtually any fridge known to man. this diy had at least 10 different configurations and write ups, some one really...

    Why wort chillers?

to answer the question, by theory i meant thermodynamics, i don't have a book in front of me so i'm not going to start quoting formulas and such. and i'm aware that the wort can't drop below the tap water temp and it would be damn hard (time consuming) to even get it to the tap water temp...

    Why wort chillers?

https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=9395 immersion chillers (ic) seem to be the popular choice, but i went with a counter flow chiller (cfc) mainly because the theory behind it is much stronger and it effectively cools the wort faster. i've only used mine once so far and i actually...

    looking for fermenting temp. info.

i once read on here that racking it to secondary can mildly re-activate the yeast and ultimately drop it a couple more points. i haven't seen it happen in any of my beers, but any truth to that? it was Wyeast smack pack: so based on that i was withing the temperature range. do i stand a...

    looking for fermenting temp. info.

i brewed an irish red 2 weeks ago using an extract recipe with grains recipe i developed. i made a starter using an irish ale yeast and set in the basement as i've always done, original gavity was 1.052. i didn't get to rack it to secondary like i wanted to after 1 week due to a travel...

    Brew Pot and Wort Chiller

i made a cfc and it worked excellent on the first and only brew i've had it for. very simple build up if you feel like doing it yourself, otherwise they get a bit more pricey if you have to purchase a cfc.

    Building a wort chiller

Built it up saturday morning. Two observations, first, it is a simple build up, second, forcing the copper tubing throught the garden house seems nice and easy for the first 18 feet, then you get to the last 2 feet and its a bear, you really have to work those last 6 inches to get the copper...

    Building a wort chiller

but that's half the fun of homebrewing, doing it yourself. i understand where you're coming from, i was close to going with a store bought ic myself but when i looked at the cost of building a cfc, it wasn't that much more and since cfc is better at cooling than ic, i decided why not.

    Building a wort chiller

went out and bought the bom from cheyco's design last night, should build tomorrow night and use it saturday when i brew my irish red. i'll let you guys know how it turns out. total cost, mainly due to copper  , $78 + tax, not too bad, and cheaper than northern brewers $150 for their...

    Cheyco's CFC

back from the dead, went out and bought the bom yesterday, will build it likely tomorrow night, and hopefully test it saturday when i do some brewing, irish red baby! ok, ok, i'm excited about the red, but not that excited, more so for the chiller.
